Just around the corner from the New Rose where I was staying, the That Dam Restaurant is a nice choice for a place to sample a variety of local specialties. Quiet (unless you're seated next to a noisy table) and friendly, right across the street from the That Dam.

It's a good and fantastic one place in Vientian. But maybe a little slow service if you come in big group.

This restaurant is attached to a wine cellar that has a great selection of European and new world wines. Prices aren't too bad for Laos where one expects to pay more for imported wines (all wines are imported of course). In the restaurant they provide the wines, many from a chiller, at cellar prices so that's a big plus. The... More

I confess to being a regular of this place for many reasons. You can nick next door and pick up a great bottle of wine, some harissa or whatever other exotic ingredients they have there, you can usually get a parking spot unlike the rest of this choked up city, the stupa is after all this time still complelling, you... I actually think it's good value for money. For $12, I got seafood spaghetti (with shrimps and squid and lots of veggies), fried rice with seafood (ok, I like seafood) and caramel cream (or crème brulee). Yes, that is a bit expensive compared to other local restaurants but if you think of its ambience, location and compare with other western... More

Westernish setup, hence a certain expat-cum-tourist (small) crowd with wealthy Laotians that rightly isn't everyone's cup of Beerlao. I found the place slightly unpleasant, with sultry, unsmiling staff that felt disturbed by customers, as they wanted to continue their renovation work. My steak with cheese sauce was decidedly underwhelming; my colleagues' dishes as well (Spaghetti Carbonara really weak and not... More

I do enjoy being al fresco! The paved garden here, languishes in the shade of mature trees and bamboos, and you are just across from Vientiane's most historic monument, That Dam, or the Black Stupa. Where nature doesn't provide sufficient shade, the restaurant has invested in excellent shades. The menu is diverse and the food is always good. I love... More

Very good food with nice wine with a lovely ambience in the heart of Vientiane. Great western menu, great steak and meat dishes to savour.

If you can stand the same Nat King Cole song/record being played over and over again (or come to think of it, even once) then this is definitely the place for you, but the dreadful music detracted from what would otherwise have been a very pleasant evening. Apart from the music this was a lovely quiet spot, the service was... More
