Our driver took us to National Food for our first meal in Uzbekistan, and the food was so excellent setting the bar so high that we couldn't find any restaurants on par with this throughout our entire trip in Nukus, Khiva, Bukhara. The menu is in local language only, we ordered some salads, a horse sausage (?) dish, the manti... More

This is by far the best place to eat in Tashkent (unless you are vegetarian). You kind of look lost if you don't speak Uzbek but someone who speaks English will take pity on you and help you to order. I had the lamb stew in hotpot and also the kind of wheat/lamb porridge. OMG simply amazing and the tomato... More

We had lunch here and with a large party we ordered a selection of dishes and so could try and share. I was knocked out by how good Uzbek food is, I guess not so if you are a vegetarian. They are especially good at soups, broths and cold starters of aubergine and tomato. This was quick, hot excellent local... More

We had trouble finding this place during our first evening in Tashkent but it was well worth finding. There isn't a sign so the Lonely Planet description of walking under goat parts and seeing the Kazaans was a useful help. The place is very canteen-like in terms of seating and we walked in and wandered around a bit until a... More

We turned up here for an evening meal. The welcome was friendly and we were told to take a seat. I had made a note of some dishes I wanted to try but they turned out to be daytime dishes so not available. The waiter ended up coming round the caldrons and noting down what we wanted. We selected tomato... More

Yup, this place is awesome. Everything was good. Halim (the wheat/meat porridge thing that they're cooking in the biggest pot) is definitely worth trying, we loved it. We got help from a young couple who was eating there, they said halim was one of the national dishes (though we hadn't seen it anywhere else). The horse meat dish took a... More

Great place to discover local food, if you are a foreign visitor. There are only local patrons, which is a good sign. The place has basic ammenities, but is very clean. The waiters are friendly and speak a little english. You can see the cooks prepare the food by the entrance, and choose what you want to eat by pointing... More
