This is our favorite spot when we are craving kuru fasulye. It might seem funny for some foreigners going to a restaurant to eat beans, but it's an excellent meal, and this restaurant has been around for a long time serving them up in the right way. We recommend ordering buttery rice and pickles to go with your beans, and... More

The beans were fine as beans go! Staff were friendly, I didn't quite understand the menu. This is how I ordered beans. Thought I was ordering meat dish, but never mind, this is all part of the Turkish Food Ordering experience! The beans were fine and are the restaurant's speciality, but I would probably have preferred a bit of meat!

So... things are simple. The cook does magic with beans and you will love the food as long as you are a butter lover, as they are using butter in abundance! Traditional recipes, extremely well given with a respect in tradition. Believe me, I know what I am talking about as we have almost the same cuisine in Northern Greece.... More

The food on this limited menu is average, but how could you go wrong with a simple choice of beans, salads and grills. What ruins this place are the grim waiting staff who would better suited to working in a funeral parlour. They are surly and totally disinterested in you as a customer, or the service the restaurant should provide.... More

If you want to meet with the most non-waiting waiters of Istanbul, that's your place. You can find a group of men, never waiting for your order, at the terace. They are not willing to bring you the bill, either. But the beans are cool anyway.

We were staying next door and popped in for lunch for lack of anywhere else (didn't want to walk back to Galata etc). My wife and I shared the beans and some other dishes- OMG the beans were like Turkish baked beans. Small chunks of meat, a little spicy thick sauce and soft beans. Very filling, tasty and only about... More

The food was good, and it was nice to experience another type of Turkish food that isn't just Doner Kebabs. Would definitely recommend it if you're in the area. Service here is sort of lacking, overall the waiters here seemed quite indifferent towards their guests, but that shouldn't put you off by giving this a try.

If you like to taste traditional Turkish food, it is the place to visit at Tophane, Karakoy. The name derives from famous white beans " fasulye" and the speciality of the restaurant is naturally the pleasant combination of white beans , rice and yoghurt...The stewed meat, called " kavurma" is also recommended for a change...The menu items are in general... A local friend took us here for dinner after fasting during Ramadan The beans are the specialty of the place and they were great, give them a chance The staff did hardly speak any English, but we managed to understand, the service was good but don't expect much from the atmosphere

Rated average. We wanted to eat here, but found out no alcohol is served. As a matter of fact, a lot of the more street type places, even those highly rated on here, are very small mom/pop establishments, and many in Istanbul do not serve alcohol Quite interesting for a place that has over 400 bars in a single district.... Staying in Karakoy

Neighbourhood Profile
Karakoy
Sitting pretty with an age-old air about it, Karakoy is situated on the European side of the Bosphorus at the mouth of the Golden Horn. Perhaps the city’s most historically significant area, it’s currently one of the most happening parts of town as well. Here street vendors and alfresco fish restaurants line the banks of the Horn where the views of major attractions across the water rival Karakoy’s own key attractions, such as the iconic 14th century Galata Tower and the Museum of Modern Art. A major hub for local and international waterborne traffic, Istanbul’s commercial and maritime heritage remains as relevant and evident as ever in Karakoy. Commuter ferries mingle with luxury cruise liners at its busy port, ensuring a continuously cosmopolitan flow of people..
