I love the Turkish scrambled eggs (menemen), so I ordered it at dinnertime. It wasn't on the menu and the waiter laughed, but they made a beautiful dish for me. I was traveling solo, but seated with some people I met in my hotel, and their meals looked fantastic. CLEAN, friendly, central, a good bargain. The best surprise was that... More

The second home kitchen was a great addition to the second home hostel! Home cooked meals and funny staff, the kitchen was my go to spot. Cheap, yummy and around the corner from the hostel, this was a great place for breakfast, lunch and dinner!!

I ate four times at the Second home restaurant during my stay in Istanbul--I kept going back because the staff were so friendly and devoted to ensuring that we enjoyed their food. Once during a power outage and rain storm they cooked our dinner by candle light! The main guy who speaks English is awesome, fun to chat with and... More

I ate at the Second Home kitchen a few times while I stayed at the Second Home hostel, and honestly, it was extremely good. I wasn't sure what to expect when it came to Turkish food, but it was excellent! I tried both the Sac Kuvarma (a dish with meat, tomato, rice, peppers and spices), and the lentil soup. The... More

It was really nice place to have something to eat! It was really pleasure to be there, they have delicius soup! It was really warming in cold days of December. I recommend this place to everyone! It is connected to Secondhome Hostel, staff is really friendly and not pushy. It was almost like having meal at home.

While we are staying in Istanbul, we tried different types of food. We ate vegeterian casserole in Secondhome Kitchen with reasonable prices and it was so good, maybe one of the best food we have ever ate in Istanbul.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
