I visited this traditional grill house with locals. That was an advantage as the restaurant employees have a bery limited knowledge of English or any other language. However... don't worry! They are so willing to serve you that you will not need to even speak :) This is one of the restaurants that you don't even need to write much... More

We went to Kirvem in the last night in Istanbul. Outstanding lamb barbecue, try anything with lam it can't go wrong. You can even sit around the grill while eating. Also they have some wonderful Turkish wine. Great place, great food, very good service, decent price

Myself and three business colleagues ate at this small restaurant (cafe) on a Friday night, no reservation, and it was full of locals. Service was good and prices very reasonable - 4 people, two courses each plus drinks came to £40! We did seem to get more than we ordered but wasn't an issue given the low prices so we... More

Traditional turkish restaurant with excellent quality, food tasted great, staff very friendly. Don't ask for the menu, just ask the waiter to recommend! Chances are you'll eat better than you would imagine! Been there several times, would go there again!

We went looking for a restaurant of a similar name which was just around the corner but mistakenly went into Kirvem Ocakbasi. Again without a reservation we managed to find a table. We found the service, welcome and food to be excellent and did not realise that we were in the wrong restaurant. Really enjoyed the night.

Walked passed by this restaurant and decided to give it a go the next evening. We had a very disappointing experience. I ordered the lamb livers and my husband the lamb neck. The waiter was very nice and attentive and everything went well until we finished our meal and wanted to pay. The waiter fussed around for at least 20... More

While the food is not bad and service is good (we realize that most Turkish restaurants have generally good service, especially if you are a tourist), we were surprised to find out a few 'extra' items have been added to the bill. I did not appreciate this one bit, but decided to let it go because the waiters have been... More

Food quality wasn't half bad, but portions were minimal and the sides were nothing special either. The atmosphere is definitely not tourist friendly. Worst part was not the rather high prices, but the waiter aggressively adding 5TL as his tip without me offering it.

If you can ignore the scrappy inside, then you can enjoy the delicious and flavored meat with a very good cooking quality. It's highly recommended to set on Ocakbaşı specially in winter time If you would like to have a intimate and cosy time with your friends in company with rakı. Çöpşiş, kaburga, bıldırcın, pirzola are highly recommended.

Thank Aylin M

Neighbourhood Profile
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.
