First time we found there accidentally and we loved the food very much. It's exactly the Turkish food. First of all they bring you some free food as appetizers, but be aware if you don't want içli köfte told them, because it's 5 tl. The other things are free. I love sarmabeyti more than the other kebabs but all of... More

If you want to hang out and eat where the locals do, this place is perfect. The whole area is buzzing with loud and hungry families and most of the joints around are great. This is not a place where you get fancy service so don't expect it. Basically, you have to know what you want to eat and there... More

We had such a marvellous time here, sitting on the footpath and enjoying fabulous food. The owner greeted us and kept inquiring if everything was fine. He offered free coffees, and even brought us hand wipes and cologne after the meal. The kebabs and salads were delightful, and there were free mezes. Highly recommended.

Tucked away on a side street, we went on the recommendation from a family friend. We had one dish each, ordering Tavuk Sis (chicken shish), Cop Sis (Lamb shish), Tomato Kebab and Aubergine Kebab. All dishes were brilliant, the tomato and aubergine were mince kebabs alternated with BBQ'd tomato and aubergine. Portions were very generous, great value for money!

They gave us additional foods without asking (we thought it was free), then they requested for price.

we ate here after 4 years and we felt very happy that the taste was maintained and the kebaps are of same delicious taste as they were last time. Good service too.

Probably one of the best kebabs ever eaten. so much so we came back again a couple of days later. Not a massive choice but excellent quality of food and free accompaniments for kebabs and good service. Very impressed by portion size and constant supply of fresh breads.

We had a great dinner here until we received the bill. They provide so many sides and starters for free and their portions sizes are very generous. I was going to leave a great review for them. However, in the end, they were also very dishonest and increased the prices of the meals we ordered on the bill. We ended... More

Staying in Fener & Balat

Neighbourhood Profile
Fener & Balat
This sleepy and rather socially conservative area of Istanbul hosts a small but thriving Jewish community, the patriarchate of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and some of the most beautiful churches and Christian art in the world. Much of what’s most interesting to witness in Fener and Balat sits between the surviving ancient city walls of Constantinople and the serene shores of the Golden Horn. Despite the many splendid sights, historic attractions, stunning vistas, and warm Turkish welcome, the area remains largely unperturbed by the tourist trade that characterizes the atmosphere in nearby Sultanahmet and around the Grand Bazaar. Travelers that like to explore off the beaten track will reap big rewards for making the effort to visit this low-key part of town.
