We chose here for dinner on the night of our wedding anniversary as a special treat, we were not disappointed. I had escargot as an entree, delicious, reminded me of when we lived in France. My husband had a crab soup and said it was really nice. For a main I had a prawn cheesy pasta dish, which was unusual... More

We sat in the air conditioned smoke free restaurant at the back. The front has the bar type pool table, and indoor and out door smoking available restaurant. My father is a vegan, so the chefs were able to provide the restaurant specialist French onion soup without the parmasen cheese. My veal escallop with mushroom sauce and fresh steamed verges... We ordered for the house special coconut crab. it came in a generous serving and it tastes great. If you are in Port Vila, make it a point to come and try this. They also have lobster, wild pigeon in the menu, and they are good too.

L'Houstalet lived up to expectations in terms of the food but don't be too surprised when you find yourself in a very dreary room on plastic chairs and a table that looks like it's come out of the 70's. Whatever you do don't expect the French influence to extend beyond the food.

Port Vila through restaurants such as L'Houstalet lives upto its French colonial past and this place has been operating for 40 years now. Good gourmet food, excellent service, some great wine on offer all add up to the unforgettable experience.

Very nice dinner. Complimentary bread before dinner. Tomato salad very good. Lobster was good, three tails! Fillet..... was excellent. Staff friendly. Atmosphere brought me back to a back street in Paris. Worth a visit.

Thoroughly recommend this restaurant. The soups were superb especially the crab one. The mains were so rich, be careful ordering. We had to try the wild pigeon and flying fox. We had so much to eat we had to walk back to the resort!

I had heard a lot about l'Houstalet and its flying fox so as someone interested in different foods I was keen to go and I was not disappointed. The "civet de roussette"was very tasty and meatier than expected and the wild pigeon my husband had, less "gamey" but also excellent. The desserts were delicious and refreshing after these substantial main... More

This may be an institution in Vila but it's just seedy. My husbands soup was good but my prawn cocktail that promised to be beautifully presented with a touch of spice in the sauce was in reality 6 rubbery tired prawns arranged around the dish with a standard seafood sauce, straight out of 1950. The blue cheese steak was to... More

We revisited L'Houstalet after 6 years with memories of incredible prawn bisque (her) and the tenderest steak (him) We were not dissapointed and both of these dishes were 5 star, and the blue cheese sauce with the steak was divine. The staff are friendly and it is easy to see why this restaurant has been open for 40 years. The... More
