If I could give zero stars, I would. This place cheats people who speak or read Korean poorly. I ordered my food in Korean, and was given a single portion of budae jiggae (army stew) even though there were two of us sharing the food....But we were charged double. When I confronted the waitress in Korean that our food was only for one person's portion, she got defensive and said we were wrong and insisted we pay up. Based on other reviews, this place seems intentional in cheating tourists who don't know the Korean language, or in my case, someone who knows Korean but not a native speaker. I would not recommend anyone patronizing this place.More

The middle-aged male waiter at this establishment is probably one of THE RUDEST WAITERS I have ever experienced in my life. I don’t think I have ever felt as anxious and panicked in a public setting as I was at this restaurant. TO FOREIGNERS: And...to any other foreigners out there reading this, find somewhere else to eat PLEASE. It’s not worth it to deal with his maltreatment and degradation of you as a human being. Especially since the food is not cheap by any means. EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE. Hope this is helpful. MY EXPERIENCE: The middle-aged male waiter at this establishment is probably one of THE RUDEST WAITERS I have ever experienced in my life. I don’t think I have ever felt as anxious and panicked in a public setting as I was at this restaurant. My friend and I came into the restaurant at around 2:00pm and there was a significant lunch rush. However, there were still a couple tables that did not have any customers. We promptly sat down at one one the empty tables and opened the menu. I had already been to this restaurant about a month before and I had a wonderful experience so I already knew what I was going to order. Not yet 30 seconds had gone by before a middle-age male waiter begrudgingly walked up to our table and asked in a very agitated tone “Aren’t you ready to order yet??” (I am translating the general meanings of what he said from Korean to English as best as I can). I was a little flustered at the way he asked the question and since I can speak some Korean but not quickly or at a very high level I stuttered my words a little bit but managed to order the signature dish and ask for two sides of rice. He looked at me with a sour face and said “What spice level?” in a very aggressive tone while accusingly pointing at me. I didn’t understand him at first since he spoke very quickly so I politely asked him to repeat himself. Instead of asking the question again, he banged his finger on the menu and angrily said, in English, “THIS THIS THIS”. I then pointed at our preferred spice level and he asked, again very AGGRESSIVELY, “Is that it???” and stomped away to place our order. He returns about 5 minutes later with our pan of food to be cooked on the table stove and he slams it on the table. I asked him to turn on the stove since I didn’t know which setting to put it on and he asked angrily, “WHAT?! CAN’T YOU EVEN READ KOREAN??? WE HAVE INSTRUCTIONS RIGHT THERE!” I told him that I was sorry but that I still wasn’t very good at reading Korean yet. He then mutters to himself “D@mn foreigners. Aishhh” and some other insults that I couldn't pick up on. He turns on the stove for us and then leaves again. I translated the Korean instructions using my phone and I proceeded to follow them as best as I could, mixing the food as it cooked. It felt like not even 3 minutes had gone by before he came back again, very upset, and scolded me saying “Why can’t you do anything right? It’s not even that hard!” He mixed our meal himself in the exact same way that I had been mixing it, just at a faster pace. After mixing it he them slams the tongs into the tongue holder, let’s out another “AISSSHHH” before walking away to let us eat. At this point I was so scared and nervous that my stomach was nauseous and my hands were shaking. I didn’t know what I had done to upset him so badly. Even as I ate I looked behind me to see if he was coming our way and he glared at us occasionally which made me very uncomfortable and I was unable to even taste the food because I was so nervous and afraid. To make things worse, I know that he was only treating us this way because he hates foreigners. I know this because not very long after he left our table for the last time, the large table of Korean customers asked to place their order. I watched as he walked over with a smile and served them food happily and told jokes to make them laugh. I was disgusted, disappointed, and overwhelmingly anxious. However, I convinced myself to finish my bowl of rice, as I felt that if I didn’t eat my food he would just come and yell at me again for not eating what I ordered. So I shoved the food into my mouth as quickly as I could, I paid the bill, and we left in a hurry. I AM ALSO ETHNICALLY KOREAN: I know for a fact that this was not a race thing but a general hatred of all foreigners because I am 100% Korean by blood but was raised in the USA. The whole point of me being here was to learn Korean in the first place so it just made me really sad and ashamed to think that there are Korean people out there that are like this. I am proud to be Korean and I know many others are too. So, I feel the need to say that this man is a disgrace to the Korean people. He brings shame to South Korea as a country and will give outsiders a poor impression of the Korean people. If you ever see someone treating a foreigner like this in public, please say or do something about it. The two Korean girls who ate at the table next to us heard and saw the way he mistreated us and looked uncomfortable but didn’t say anything in our defense and part of me really wishes they would have helped. I am not blaming them at all, but I am just saying that a kind person can really make all the difference. ☆★I AM ASSUMING THIS MAN IS THE OWNER OF THE RESTAURANT BECAUSE AN EMPLOYEE WOULD NEVER ACT IN SUCH A RUDE WAY. PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT HIS BUSINESS ★☆ LAST MESSAGE: All of the FEMALE WORKERS at this restaurant have always been extremely NICE and have always given good service. Please do not blame them. It is the older man at the restaurant who is the problem. Please do not harass the employees because of this review. Thank you 🤍🌸🤍More

I am a regular visitor. I have already known that there is waiter with improper service mind from my previous observation. The waiter (age around 30-40 years old) needs to fix his attitude. He is rude and mannerless. He did not treat the customer nicely;...banging the utensil, acting annoyed and bad body language. He reject a solo customer during peak hour. The rest of the staff is just fineMore

The Worst taste, worst foods size, worst service. This restaurant is a shame of korean restaurant. I came here with my international friend. And server said the un respectful sentence to customer. Because they r foreigners and they cant understand korean. About the foods, looks...like cheap but its not. If u order kongbul, u will get bunch of bean sprouts with tiny if pork. So i really dont recommend it. And foods taste was the worst food in my life. I am korean, so I know the tastes. No word to say. They just have great location and serve worst foods to tourists. Please dont wast your money, time and appetite. I dont want any victims because of this restaurant . And my international friend also dosent like it. Not about spicy, just bad foods.More

I visited Kongbul in Hongdae for dinner. It is a speciality restaurant selling bean sprout bulgogi, most of the menus come with bean sprouts! Actually I do not enjoy eating bean sprout but my friend recommend this restaurant to me, so I decided to give...it a try. It was during dinner time, and there was quite a lot customers that day. The main menu is kongbul, and you may choose the types such as cheese/ sweet/ seafood kongbul. They serve budae-jjigae (army stew) as well. We ordered the original one for two person. I think the price is reasonable because it is only 7000won for one serving. When we ordered, the waitress advised us that the dishes are quite spicy. I can't eat too spicy, so they will make it less spicy for us. Remember to tell them if you can't eat spicy as well. I was quite surprised because the dishes is really fulllll of bean sprout, but it was acceptable to me. The bean sprout was refreshing when it serve with the meat. However, I expected a little spicy but they make it zero spicy for us. I think maybe a little spicy will be much more better for a ordinary korean food haha. Lastly, as usual, add on a fried rice to max up your satiety!More
