Fangshan restaurant has recently moved from the inlet within Beihai park onto the north shore of the park. It is a restaurant with a long history and specialises in dishes prepared and eaten for the emperors of long ago. Surprisingly, the dishes are mostly not elaborate or that special - simple ingredients and presentation with an emphasis on northern China... More

A govt run restaurant to the east of Tiananmen Square, its popular with the tour companies and ours wa no exception. Its a nice building and very close to the main action around the square and the forbidden city but the food is decidely average, as part of a group we were given the set menu of rice soup and... This is by far the best Chinese food and experience to be had in Beijing. The food, ambiance, service and overall experience were superb. If you go to Beijin, you must hit Fangshan

The word Fang Shan literally means Imitate Royal Cuisine. The theme of this restaurant is to mimic the ambiance of the Imperial Ching Dynasty and the dishes is served. They used to have the waitress dressed in traditional court uniforms, this is no longer practiced in the restaurant. The food is terrible, any small eatery will beat them any time.... More

Had an Imperial dinner that was easily our best dining experience in Beijing. The room was splendid and the food was fantastic. Service a little challenging but the food more than overcame expectations. The garlic shrimp were a masterpiece.

We had a group dinner in Fangshan Restaurant in Beijing. The restaurant is of large size and offer a choice of several halls and kind of private rooms. We had our dinner in a beautifully decorated rooms with the traditional round table in the middle. I understand that this restaurant is considered one of highly ranked restaurants in Beijing. The... The location is very nice. Inside the Beihai Park in a temple. The decor is a traditional style. Same as the plates and cups. In the menu you can find fixed menus from 400USD up to 4500USD. There are some normal dishes with normal prices too. The thing is that for normal food you can go to any Chinese restaurant... More

The food is acceptable and the environment lovely. Typical Beijing style food, not spicy. The restaurant is located just at the water side at the far end of Beya park. The park is also well Worth a walk.

We relied on a recommendation in the Beijing Lonely Planet Guide, without checking first with Trip Advisor which turned to be a huge mistake; a waste of an evening and the need to eat in another place since we didn't touch any of dishes on the table. The food could be attractive to local Chinese but certainly not at all... More

Our guide book was stating we would have fine traditional chinese food: what a deception! It is really a "tourist" place with all the bad meanigs. Poor service, poor food, much below expectations!
