A nice little gem, very popular with expats and tourists. Nestled half way between the craziness of Nanluoguxiang and Houhai in the Hutongs this is ideal if you want quality Italian food in that area. The restaurant is fairly small and only a couple of tables outside, so booking is advisable especially on the weekend. The menu is basic but... More

Really nice italian restaurant in Hutong, the food is good and italian products. The price is ok but the portions are too small. Anyway as an italian if you're looking for some good italian cuisine, Mercante and La Pizza are the best choices in Beijing.

We had dinner at Mercante and really enjoyed it. The location is really cute, right in one of the main hutong south of Gulou (which most people will know for the Greap Leap Brewery, only a couple of minutes away from the restaurant). We shared a starter with a selection of Italian hams, served with bread and olive oil, which... More

I visited this as we found an article online and it seemed like the location was a bit “exotic”. When we arrived there it turned out that it was located in a small and I guess traditional hutong and the restaurant was so anonymous that I initially walked right past it. But we went in, got a table in the... More

I made a reservation with a few friends on a weekend evening. We were all excited to enjoy Italian food while living in Beijing. The food itself all met and/or exceeded expectations. I thought it was good and worth coming back for! Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the food. We had to ask multiple times to... More

After have seen the reviews it had huge expectations. The menu could be a little more varied to attract more customers. The food was good, no doubt about it but not as good as the ratings. Very nice place though.

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary here recently with dinner one evening. We dined here and had a secluded table by the window. This restaurant is a small fine-dining restaurant, with dishes sized so that you can order 3 courses and feel like you have eaten the right quantity of food. We enjoyed a buffalo mozzarella dish and... More

We were walking through one of the hutongs in the area just east of the Drum Tower and Bell Tower and came across this Italian gem. We had read about it on TA so we went in. On Saturday and Sunday, they offer only a fixed price brunch menu with two choices for each course. We order one of each... More

After 2 weeks in China and a lot of local food we fancied a change - and Mercante was nearby so off we went. The dishes were all very pleasant but nothing outstanding in our choices - we enjoy Italian food and know what to look for. The staff were efficient, the service prompt and the atmosphere good - but... More

Recently awarded by the Daily Meal as one of the 10 Best Italian Restaurant outside Italy, Mercante is devoted to offer home style traditional Italian food in a small alley of the historical center of Beijing. In a cozy trattoria with only ten tables we propose a variety of homemade fresh pasta (tagliatelle, pappardelle, ravioli, tortelloni), imported Italian cheeses and cured meats paired with our daily baked bread and a selection of genuine homemade desserts (panna cotta, tiramisu, semifreddo). For the wine lovers we carefully selected around 50 labels of Italian wines and more recently some Italian craft beers. At Mercante we cook the food we love. Walk-in welcome. Reservations recommended. Brunch Hours: Sat and Sun 12:00-16:00 (LO 15:00) Dinner Hours: Sun-Thu 18:00-24:00 (LO 22), Fri-Sat 18:00-24:30 (LO 22:30)
