Delicious duck which was their speciality and nearly at every table. The staff really cared about the customer experience and were very attentive. Would definitely visit again!

I read some critical reviews of this restaurant but found it to be one of the most elegant and attentive fine dining exoeriences I have had. Good businesses listen to feedback. Our courses arrived swiftly. The setting is a stunning mix of tasteful modern meets...traditional- floor tiles meet pleasing wood latticed windows extending the areas to make it a beautiful daytime space, too. Four roof guards adorn the eaves. A maitre d even waited with us after calling our taxi. Perfect fresh egg tarts finIshed off our Peking Duck and assorted tofu and salads. Thank you!More
I booked this restaurant as my friends wanted to try it. Unfortunately we decided to leave the restaurant before starting the dinner due to the poor dining conditions and service. As mentioned to waiters during my first visit in December, it is extremely cold to...sit beside French windows in winter. Unfortunately we were offered the same seat this time, and waiters refused to offer us an alternative seat unless we pay a premium to be seated in a private room! I regret we didn’t go back to Made in China, my all-time favourite Chinese restaurant in Beijing. The poor service at 1949 brings back bad memories of my first trips to China in 90’s.More
This was my second Peking Duck meal in Beijing and while the duck was very good, the place is way pricier than it needs to be. The atmosphere is lovely, romantic even, and the servers spoke enough English to communicate with. The duck itself is...delicious though the presentation is accompanied by the ringing of a gong which is really unnecessary. A full duck, pancakes and condiments plus a mineral water was 440 yuan. The same can be had elsewhere for half that so if you want the atmosphere and the location works for you, by all means go.More
In Beijing for the first time with a family of four (two adults, two teenagers). The table was reserved by our hotel Peninsula. I asked them to explain to the restaurant that we would like to eat Peking duck but need instructions as first timers....That they did. The food we got was very tasty and good, the points are for that. Also the restaurant atmosphere and interior are very nice. The service was mostly attentive, but our waitress - as well as most of the staff - was completely lost with English. We simply did not get our messages through regarding the table, the food and the wine. We ordered the Peking duck but had very little idea what to do with the sauces, the vegetables, the steamed pancakes etc that arrived at our table. No explanation or instructions although I asked for them twice. As there turned out to be too little food for us, we ordered also some chicken with lemon sauce. It took some time and when it arrived, the chicken was raw. I tried to explain this, no use. So we did not touch it, paid and left. We had the desserts at out hotel restaurant to have our stomachs filled. I am annoyed as the expectations were high and it turned out not good. The food we ate tasted good but that’s it.More
Lovely display and presentation of the Peking Duck. Nice service, yet a little slow in getting drinks refilled. To be honest, I like my home cooked duck better. The flavor was just not there for me. They bring the duck to the table, carve and...serve. You take the sliced duck wrap in in a thin wrap add some vegetables and sauce, then repeat. In some ways it felt like a Tourist Duck Factory with the most foreigners I have seen in one place in the city. The restaurant did offer other unique dishes like Shark Fin Soup. For me the Duck was 3 stars and the presentation and atmosphere rounded it up to 4 stars.More
We've visited this beautiful restaurant last Sunday. No reservation in advance was needed, we've got table outside as weather was perfect :) Decided to try highly recommended Beijing duck with accompany of dumplings :) Duck was pure perfection! Tried duck in few different places before...and this one ... was the most delicious. Serving way of complementaries is very high end. Special duck dip is super nice :) Dumplings were also great! Only drinks are nothing special, to be honest. Sincerely recommend to try the duck in 1949!More
We decided to have Peking Duck for Dinner ... while in Beijing. The 1949 Restaurant, spotted in TripAdvisor and located right next to our Hotel, turned out to be an excellent Choice - very kind staff - patiently demonstrating how to eat the duck -...recommending fine side dishes, in a nice Setting. As to the Language Skills - their english is far (!!!) Better than my Chinese. We recommend this Restaurant - you‘ll enjoy your Dinner.More
We went to this restaurant on a Wednesday evening as a business dinner. The staf's English is not great. The ambiance and atmosphere is great. The food is plenty and good. They serve an excellent Peking duck, great in taste and in presentation, with all...the usual trimmings.More
I tried the roast duck in a number of Beijing restaurants. This was the best of them. Great taste and presentation.
An excellent meal, roast duck with all the trimmings, the local home brewed beer is also very very good. Well worth a visit if in Beijing.
Jin Bao Jie the manager took special care of us, he made sure our Peking duck was just right! He also took the time to explain the best wine to go with our meal. Service was excellent!
Famous for serving authentic Peking Duck. Would say overall is serving a wide range of delicious chinese dishes of very good quality. The service, for the level of the restaurant is not up to the standard but he culinary is pretty good. Good wine list...even if pretty expensive as immaginable.More
The atmosphere is great, coming into the 1949 courtyard. The food is of decent quality, but quite pricy for beijing i would say. The duck is decent, not amazing for beijing standards.
Famous for serving authentic Peking Duck, this restaurant is a culinary delight, also serving a wide range of delicious Chinese dishes. The atmosphere is classy and sophisticated and the entrance is through an art gallery, which adds to the sophisticated vibe. I spotted South African...abalone on the menu and sincerely hope it was legally procured, as South Africa has a huge abalone poaching problem, all of which ends up in the Far East.More
