Compliments to the chef and the management for being able to adapt some since 1860. The number of famous people who dived in the restaurant is The Whose who in the famous chinese history . This include founding father of modern china sun yat sun,Chou enlai who broke with history and re established ties with the usa . Food was... More

I did not know that this traditional Cha Can Ting existed in Hong Kong since 1860. The restaurant does have good ambience, luckily the wait is not too long even if you have not made a reservation prior to going there. My cousin who treated me to the dinner had the salmon and she said that that was not bad.... More

No one had told us about this old establishment before we left on our Hong Kong food trip so it was to our utter delight that we walked into Tai Ping Koon on a Friday night. Judging from the local crowd and their friendly banter with the old waiters (dressed in vests and bow-ties), we figured TPK must be a... More

Even though this restaurant was founded in 1860, it still runs very well and serves very good food. My family came for lunch a couple minutes before the rush hour which is about at 11:30. Their menu is unique, adding foods you would not expect to be with other foods. However, the combination is great. Their souffle was both spectacular... More

Definitely stop by here if you would like to try the HK fusion type food, but too nervous to try the smaller local tea shops. I loved the decor, very vintage HK, but apart from that, nothing amazing. We tried the Suisse chicken(pretty good), baked portugese chicken(had better), beef noodles(not bad), chef's salad (probably most interesting) and the soufflé(the size... More

Founded in 1860 and still running good food. They got a menu traditional Chinese with some international fusion. The menu is partly in English and understandable for non Chinese speakers. I pick up a fabulous Fried Rice Noodles with meat with Bolshoi soup as starter. They do have a great souffle for dessert as well. We spent around 650 dollar... More

This year's return to Hong Kong is much more relaxing then last year...I was able to revisit several restaurants that I had fond memories of my childhood...Tai Ping Koon is one of them, this year the feel is back as well as the food quality! Ordered Ox tail in red wine sauce, Singaporean Style Fried Rice Noodle, and Roast Squab... More

Love the food and atmosphere in Tai Ping Koon. This is what I call "soy sauce" western food. Authentic or not, this is a classic in Hong Kong that I grew up eating. My mom loves their "swiss" chicken....Funny name for the dish. It has nothing to do with Switzerland or of Swiss origin. It was simply a mis-pronunciation of... More

The food is alright... If you want to experience how the locals used have their 'western' meal in the old days then you can give it a try for the novelty sake... but the price is very high for the quality of food they serve.

Traditional chinese style western food. Been around for centuries, so speaks for itself. They are so famous that the service is snooty, but efficient. Tip them and they will remember you. The service is also 'traditional'. This is the original restaurant.

Staying in Wan Chai / Causeway Bay

Neighbourhood Profile
Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centres of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.
