I was out walking and found the place it was not opened yet I came back at noon. I had corn soup and a Japanese curry cutlet (I was looking for protein) there were better sounding Items on the menu. The cutlet was good the curry sauce was tasty. It came with salad rice and potato wedges. The service was... More

Excellent food: although they still want to use all meat names (maybe it scares people less?), all the food we sampled was great and definitely makes going here worth a visit if you want to limit your meat/fish intake or if you are a vegetarian. Will go again!

Impressed by the ambience of the restaurant. The ceiling is very high and gives the feeling of being in a Swiss chalet. The décor of using a lot of wood further confirms that impression. The retirees that work here are friendly and our waiter is the friendliest we have come across in Hong Kong. His English was very good. The... More

The restaurant recently changed the menu, and they only provide vegetarian food. Three of us ordered Baked Portabella, Crispy Deep Fried Vegetarian Cutlet & Truffle Sauce Pasta to share, and all sets are inclusive of Soup Daily, i.e. Caulflower Soup. All food was tasty, however, the vegetarian cutlet was not hot enough only. We then ordered Osmanthus cake & Beetroot... More

My husband and I were invited by his sister to this very special restaurant. The employees are all retired people. The food was excellent, healthy and delicious. We had fresh sole with black beans sauce, fried prawn balls, sweet and sour pork, fried oysters, stir fry organic vegetables with veal, and pig knuckles. A very enjoyable evening!

As other reviewers have said, the food and service is a match for anywhere. We really liked the idea of using retired people as waiters and enjoyed interesting conversations with several of the staff .... one man had lived in Glasgow !! We were staying on the level above the restaurant in Heritage Lodge Hotel, so it was a very... More

Gingko House has a new branch at Jao Tsung-I Academy, 800 Castle Peak Road, Lai Chi Kok. Impressed by their insistence in using organic ingredients. And they hired retired people working there. All staff there are as competitive as young guys and even more polite and gave you more advices! Love their attitude. Also, they keep trying new menu. It... More

The Gingko houses, one serving Chinese cuisine (near Prince Edward MTR station on Kowloon side) and one serving western cuisine (in Lan Kwai Fong area on Hong Kong side), impressed us with their consistently excellent food quality, reasonable prices and efficient and pleasant services. Set up as community economic development/social enterprise ventures that promotes organic farming and employment for retired... More

Staying in Sheung Wan

Neighbourhood Profile
Sheung Wan
Unlike most of Hong Kong’s other popular districts, Sheung Wan welcomes wanderers with an easy-going, relaxed atmosphere. Art galleries are plentiful and boutique cafés are tucked away in every side street in the sub district known as “PoHo.” Browse through the vintage clothing and handmade leather goods stores – it’s no surprise fashionistas flock to this area. History enthusiasts will be rewarded with sites of beautiful architecture, reflecting Sheung Wan’s past as one of the earliest settlements by British forces. As night falls, the entertainment scene reveals itself to be just as laid back with its private kitchens, speakeasies and underground bars dotted throughout the area. When in Sheung Wan, everyday feels like the weekend.
