My grandmother lived in Malaya pre-war and I have notes and photos of her time there. She was on one of the last two ships that got civilians out alive and back to Britain before it was lost to the invading army. I often recall her stories and happy memories of those days, the friendship, sharing, and fun lifestyles. So... More

Popped in for a few drinks before our meal at the Tiffin room. We had a Singapore slings & Raffles sipsmith gin. Yes it wasn't cheap but you wouldn't expect it to be and to see everyone throwing nut shells on the floor was an experience and of course we joined in. It's definitely worth a visit for the experience.

We had time to spare on the last day and opted to drop in for a Sling and ended up staying for a light lunch as well as well. We ordered the beef sliders and calamari. Both meals were a generous size, freshly cooked and delicious. The calamari was tender with crispy crumbs and cooked perfectly. Before ordering lunch we... More

My friends and i had a great evening here. Monkey nuts on all tables and sipping Singapore Slings. We did not reserve, but had to wait around 15 mins for a table.

because of that if you wanted to pay $31 (Singapore dollars) for a Sling you had to go to the billiard room. no view but a nice area. We did get the famous peanuts. The staff were not friendly. But we can say we paid a ridiculous amount for a very basic cocktail

This is only a review of the bucket list ticking Singapore Sling and not the hotel as accommodation. Due to renovations this was in the Bar and Billiards Room. The cocktail itself was good but very expensive and then there's Singapore's seemingly universal 17% surcharge. The staff was efficient though not especially friendly but probably because they were constantly dealing... More

Was a lovely experience, you need to visit this place and soak up the atmosphere, the bag of peanuts on the table was novel, the Singapore Sling is $31 plus 10% service charge and prevailing 7% GST, we went for the Virgin Sling which was very nice and only $14 plus tax. Menu options were French Fries $12 plus tax,... More

The impressive and iconic Raffles Hotel has been part of Singapore for the last 130 years or so. With a large frontage and an imposing sweeping driveway the hotel is set back from the road. Our tour was dropping us off here to partake in the world famous Singapore Sling cocktail. There was initial disappointment in finding that the equally... More

Everyone says when you go to Singapore go to the original raffles hotel and the bar where they invented the singapore sling. I would say don't bother. The hotel is beautiful but the bar is average and the drinks are extortionate. I don't get the fuss. Singapore sling isn't even a good cocktail like mojitio cosmopolitan or any other drink!

Description
With Long Bar undergoing restoration, our iconic Singapore Sling experience will continue to be served here. A light snack menu complements our renowned cocktail as well as an extensive list of other cocktails and spirits.

The Singapore Sling, widely regarded as the national drink of the country, was first created in 1915 at the Long Bar in Raffles Singapore by bartender Ngiam Tong Boon. It later went on to gain international fame and a century later, is still enjoyed around the globe. To learn more about the Singapore Sling, please click here.

Regarded as the oldest existing bar in its original location in Singapore, Bar & Billiard Room is an institution within Raffles Singapore. It occupies a standalone building built in 1896, and was the first in the country to have a lady bartender stirring up a storm in the 1920s. Inside, chandeliers hang down from the high ceiling and the floor tiles are replicas of the original. One of the five original billiard tables from the turn of the century can be found there, where guests are welcomed to play a round or two. Picture windows look out to the surrounding thick foliage, interrupted by elegant cast-iron frames that compose the terrace.

Staying in Marina Bay

Neighbourhood Profile
Marina Bay
More of a mini city than a neighbourhood in the traditional sense, the iconic Marina Bay aims to dazzle and entertain visitors of all kinds. This is the Singapore found in glossy brochures, featuring a world-class hotel, casino, shops, restaurants, bars, and other attractions all geared towards pure entertainment. The SkyPark at Marina Bay Sands provides a stunning view of the city, a must-see photo opportunity for visitors and locals alike. The ArtScience Museum always has a top-quality exhibition, and Gardens by the Bay is a fascinating manifestation of the government’s vision of Singapore as a “city in a garden”. Enticing Marina Bay is well worth a visit.
