Adjoining to Arab Street, this is a small café where in the night, tables folded with the wall, spill out in a small lane named Haji lane. It is colourfully painted. Is full of atmosphere. Eat here Dips and kebabs. Or order for mixed grill of chicken, fish, lamb and beef cuts if you wants to try a little of... More

I was in Arab Street looking for Al Tazzag but apparently the restaurant has closed down and now a new establishment has taken over. The new name of the restaurant is called Castania serving Egyptian food. Quality of food is good but not on par with some of the restaurants in the area. Price is not expensive either. In terms... $100 for 3 people (no alcohol). Chicken shish kabab very greasy, generally poor quality food and unsanitary conditions. Save your money and stomach. Blu jazz next door kabab much better taste and quality.

Had dinner there, with an Egyptian friend, and the food whilst not awful, wasn't great either. Hastily put together and without much effort we guessed. The big draw for this place appears to be the shisha - I think we were the only table eating, even though the place was full, even seating people in the street. There are bound... More

Wandering down Haji lane we found the Al-Tazzag restaurant very inviting. It was busy and had a good look and feel to it. Unfortunately there's nothing else good that can be said. In short: slow and awful service and cheap nasty food which was overpriced. Read on for details. We ordered two cold drinks, some humus and bread, a kofti... More

Unfortunately there isn't much good we can report from eating at this place on a Saturday evening. Long waiting, overpriced and the quality of the food (mezze platter) was below anything we've come across so far. It might have just been a bad day, but from our experience we'd not recommend this place.

We arrived for lunch on a very steamy Singapore day. Our young, sweet waiter served us cold drinks while the cook began to prepare the food. Everything we ate was fresh and had good flavors. We especially enjoyed grilled eggplant with tahini, the tabbouleh and lamb kofte. The portions were ample . This small restaurant faces a well travelled lane... More

The only great thing about this restaurant is that it's in the heart of a very lively area in Singapore - Haji Lane, right next to Arab Street. Besides that the food is disgusting and it's way overpriced (even compared to the high prices in this area). Don't think you'll eat some good mezze around a shisha. The pita bread... More

Altazzas restraunt stands out in Haji Lane due to its bright yellow fascade. It is a small restraunt serving Egyptian meals. You can sit like an Egyptian on a cushion or dine at a table and chair. Haji Lane is narrow and busy and interesting. This is an alcohol free restraunt. The dips need to warm before eating. The kebabs... More

Staying in Kampong Glam

Neighbourhood Profile
Kampong Glam
This traditionally Malay enclave of Singapore offers an alluring array of shops, cafes, and bars. A walk down Haji Lane offers quirky shopping, while one block over, Arab Street is a treasure trove of brightly coloured fabrics, clothing, and Turkish rugs. Stop for a leisurely coffee or cocktail and watch local kids play traditional games along the lane. Also home to the Malay Heritage Centre and one of Singapore’s most prominent mosques (Sultan Mosque), Kampong Glam is a must-visit for a tantalizing taste of Malay life in this city.
