A lovely Sunday morning out with the family has turned into an episode of Survivor. After deciding to try somewhere new (v. Bakery next door) we jumped in, found a good spot (cool layout, especially out the back), and then ordered off a little bit of a boring menu board. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. 40 mins... More

The coffe was great, as well as the space. Many different themes around different seating places. My table was dirty though and noone came to clean it after.

I tried the shepherd's pie this time. SGD 9.90. I think overall it's not bad but then the pie itself is missing the Worcestershire sauce and tomato. I couldn't taste these flavors at all. The mashed potato tasted more like bread because of the texture. They don't have service and gst charge. Everything is nett charge. I guess that's a... More

Went to this cafe for an afternoon tea to get work done. Bought a $7 iced coffee (yes totally overpriced). Coffee was ok but definitely not worth $7, Starbucks frappucinos are larger and don't even cost as much. Place was mainly filled with expats/tourists when I was there and was the only local there. The middle aged lady owner is... More

Sitting right next to Tiong Bahru Bakery, the Orange Thimble holds its own in terms of proving a good coffee experience. They do have a small following and a smattering of people who come in if the queue next door becomes quite unacceptable. We were on a coffee trip so we had to venture to as many coffee shops as... The service improved quite a lot from the last time I went (in Mar maybe). The people who served me were polite and approachable. Together with my friend, we willingly ordered lattes, Kapitan and Rendang Stew with Rice as well as the Crumble Top Cake(?), not too sure about the name. The kapitan stew is curry chicken and it was... More

Loved this little cozy place for brunch.. me and my friends keep looking out for new cafes to meet up and last Sunday, we chose Orange Thimble. The place is a few mins walk from Outram park MRT, nice ambience, a little crowded and has the best cakes in that area. I tried the lychee cake and it was yummy... More

The service staff was very polite and approachable. Ordered a Portobello sandwich but they ran out, so changed to grilled chicken. Food was good.

Nice little restaurant close to Tiong Bahru Market. Not to noisy, good for a quiet nice meal. Decor is minimal, nice smooth music in the background. My smoked salmon sandwich was fresh and sumptuous. Overall a good place for a pleasant meal.

Staying in Tiong Bahru

Neighbourhood Profile
Tiong Bahru
Home to both local families and transient expats, Tiong Bahru is a fascinating mix of tradition and youthful creativity. Its status as a conservation area ensures that this little hub has charm and heritage on display at every corner, while the 1930s art deco architecture provides a glimpse of days gone by. Stock up on fresh tropical fruits at the wet market, browse high quality literature and children’s books, shop for interesting gifts and local fashion, or munch on bargain-priced hawker food as the aroma of frying noodles and fresh-brewed coffee wafts through the air. Cap your day with a massage and a latte, a glass of wine, or a pain au chocolat from one of the many busy bakeries. An afternoon in this vibrant and beautiful neighbourhood is not to be missed.
