Don't be fooled by the lackluster menu—it's not that bad. I was there on the evening of the National Census so it was literally the only restaurant in town that was open. I had very low expectations but was pleasantly surprised by a seafood ravioli that actually seemed homemade. I see no reason to go back but it performed adequately... More

We went with my wife to the Balandra on 1st January 2017 for dinner (restaurant of the radisson hotel) and it was a real disaster. The restaurant was quite empty, and we order drinks and main courses. 5 minutes later we received our drinks. 15 minutes, 30 minutes, nothing. We asked for our main courses. Unfortunately no server spoke English... More

Expensive option in Puerto Varas that should have been much MUCH better. Our starter soups were served poured over a pastry parcel that promptly turned to soggy mush. Our mains were over-salted, tepid and unpleasant. We barely touched them. What's more the toilets were vile - someone had changed a nappy and left it and the wipes all over the... More

I stayed at the hotel where the restaurant is. The food is pretty good, lots of options, very varied. The service is great. The place is amazing: cozy and elegant and the view to the lake is very beautiful.

Balandra was a typical hotel restaurant and bar. Atmosphere was ok drinks were ok, we didn't eat at the restaurant (this time) other than the breakfast, and the service was a little lacking for drinks as well as for breakfast.

The food here was fantastic - my best meal on a nine day trip to Patagonia and a very welcome change from the the usual meat and potatoes-dominated dining options. Everything I had here was delicious - a lovely salmon starter with tangy Asian sauce, an excellent salad with tuna, prawns and avacado and a really flavoursome duck dish. Great... More

We ate here twice during our stay in the Puerto Varas area, and were very pleasantly impressed with the food. Amuse bouches were great both times, the mains really nicely done, and the salads pretty nice as well. We also appreciated that they were willing to serve gringo hours (even though we were usually the only diners at 730 pm).... More

Probably one of the best ristrettos that I've had in South America (so far on the road for six weeks) so for coffee they get a very big hurrah from me. The gnocchi was superb and the staff were just fantastic. All in all this made my trip to Puerto Varas (as well as the Pedro museo).

Before discover this amazing land, i lived on a real "cooking paradise", dealing with the sea, forest , lakes & volcanoes. All of them provide us a lot of products and also ancient techniques. So that, our job is turn these elements on unique experiences.

Balandra is a kind of ship, guided by me as Capitan for instance i have a crew, which uses as a oars forks, knifes, saucepans, etc, those allows me to sail throughout the flavors usign the finest techniques. Once we got the final result a piece of art delivered to our customers, involing tradition, respect, flavor and vanguard at Balandra Restaurant.

A Southern Substance

Curantito wants to give you the most warm welcome.
So Salmon the Lake's emperor, placed on a land full of love and rain
Also this settlers land with their pies, sausages and the tasty vaporous spirits.
The "Huilliche" men, who enjoys the splendour of threes and the virgin shores where stream of wild blue, black and strawberries flows.
The unhappy "Huepos and Choros" with their fatal destiny, die on embers made of tepu three dressed, the only mission of them are just to satisfy this southern men.

As i told you, the South is wonderfull
Like the cheese that we can eat with sopaipilla or tortilla
Or maybe the most poundered handcraft dressed with bock or lager beer to enjoy a goose or a smoked pork ribs, is finally up to you ....
