Visited L'Amitie in the Mercado del Puerto in Montevideo, Uruguay. Lunchtime, great atmosphere, large selection of restaurants. Had steak & chorizo with salad washed down with local draft beer. Chorizo great, steak chewy with a little too much gristle.

First I ask for 2 "picanhas with rice" and mashed potatoes, it took forever to arrive (I think the waiter forgot to tell the cooker what I asked). When it arrives it was very cold. They only put one waiter to attend everybody in the high season and when the bill came, more surprise. I made the sum of all... More

We also had a woman tell us she would not charge us the typical table surcharge (usually a couple of bucks a head), but that was next door. This place was run, and probably owned, by the nicest of gentleman. A grey haired gent with a big mustache. To be fair, the picaña was tough and the swordfish just ok,... More

We were approached by the hostess, who told us there were no charges for couvert and all dishes included side dish. All lies. They charged everything in the bill. We tryed to argue, they just gave ridículos explanations. Go to another restaurant, there are many others.

This place doesn't have the best ambience and the service was kind of spotty, but I really liked going here. Went for lunch three days in a row. The meat was superb, and I'm pretty picky about my meat. The brochette, a shish kabob, was great with either the lomo (fillet of beef), pork, or chicken. The ojo de bife... More

We went there for lunch and had a nice one. Good beef, sole and nice barbecue. The waiter was friendly and helpful. The restaurant is placed in this very old market ( mercado) that deserves a visit as there are a lot of places to eat and they also sell gifts.Go.

The food was regular. The service was terrible. There was only 3 persons working (one as waitress an 2 cooking). I am almost sure the waitress was the owner. When he brought the bill, there was differente prices from the menu. He said that it was his first day working there. They charged meals that we did not eat, too.... More

A freshly cooked meal for the two of us. Plenty of fresh sea food included. Sat at the bar and were served with generous portions of the half and half plus a good local beet. The service was execellent and the meal size generous.

My friend and I went to the Mercado del Puerto looking for fresh and good seafood, and sitting down at L'amitie was a big mistake. We ordered the two fish dishes that the waiter recommended, and they were both overcooked, tasteless things that did not live up to the praise at all. We could not even finish half of it.... More

The restaurant is in a market full of options, they all charge table service but they assured me they wouldn't do that to me. When they brought me the bill "surprise!" they charged me "waitress service" which is another word for TIP which in Uruguay is clearly OPTIONAL but the waitress told me that it was not. I went to...
