Toraya is small with seating for about two dozen. My culinary guide warned that one should arrive promptly at five as the line forms early. Fortunately we sat watching the chef. He clearly enjoys and takes pride in each order. Be sure to check the daily board to see what seafood came into Boston Harbor that day. Top notch sushi.... More

Authentic no nonsense, delicious. You won't find any fancy pseudo maki here. Simple, very fresh sushi and other Japanese dishes. Long waits on the weekends but worth it.

I love Toraya for all the above. The food is very good, the service great and it has a decent selection of sake and beer and wine. The only downside is that being smll, there is usually a line waiting for a table. Come early!

We have loved this place for over a decade. Intimate setting, it's worth the wait. Simple, excellent sushi. Fish if the highest quality. Chirashi is a favorite- fantastic selection of bite sized pieces. Can't get the same anywhere else. Mmmm. The have cooked delicacies too, but we always get sushi.

Were here for Lunch. A small, special and unpretentious place. There are not many tables. I think this is typical Japanese food. We had each a box, my friend had the sashimi box - I had shrimp tempura with vegetables tempura box with many different side dishes in the box - like salad, pickles and rice. First we got a... More

I visited there with my family. I arrived there at 11:15am. It was full of all the seats at 11:35am. We had chirashi-sushi and tendon. Chirashi-sushi was taste good and beautiful! I recommend chirashi-sushi.

I've eaten at Toraya >50 times times, both alone and with friends. Used to live around the corner. Excellent Japanese food -- authentic, fresh, simply prepared and delicious. Service is excellent as well. This is a casual, neighborhood restaurant, known mostly to locals -- no-frills, no white table cloths. Tip: arrive early or go for Saturday lunch. The restaurant is... We are thrilled to have found Toraya! They serve the most authentic Japanese food I can find in the Boston area so far. It is a small restaurant with very limited seating. Be sure to arrive early if you are not keen on long wait. Last I checked, they don't take reservation. If you crave for real Japanese food this... More

We came here for lunch recently during the weekend. There was a crowd even near the end of the lunch period but we were able to eventually get seats. We ordered 2 rice bowls and the portions (especially the meat) were generous. They were good enough that we finished every single speck of rice and the waitress seemed impressed by... More
