Set in the lush gardens overlooking the pool of the Hotel by the Red Canal. Wanted a break from Burmese, Indian food not particularly spicy: the fish pakora were very good; Butter Chicken average; veg aubergine curry disappointing; Nan bread rather dry and tasteless. Fruit Lassi seems to have a lot of water. Mostly foreigner but a few locales sipping... More

The quality of food is excellent focusing primarily on Indian food but has other offerings. There was a good variety of curries and the nanny and parathas were the best that we have had during our many travels - including India. Unless you are staying at the hotel - book in advance as it is ver popular.

On our trip to Birmânia we visited Myanmar. We had the chance to eat in Spice Garden. It was the best meal of our trip and we visited several places. The entrees were great. Samosa! Quite different than the Portuguese style but very tasty. Then the curries! All sort to share. The rice was also very tasty. Steamed and with... More

Part of the reason I chose the Hotel by the Red Canal is so I could eat here everyday. It did not disappoint. Service was good. Food and wine were delicious. We liked sitting outside (bug spray) with a view of the pool and twinkling lights.

We ate at this restaurant 3 times while we were in Mandalay. The menu is extensive (mainly Indian but did have a few European options). The dishes we ordered were all tasty - chicken tikka masala, vegetable curry, saag paneer. The outdoor seating had a great atmosphere. Service was good. This was a bit more expensive than most of the... More

New to Mandalay we've been relaying on travel guides to find reliable/safe places to eat (after our adventurous pallets got us into food poisoning trouble during our journey) and this is an example of one of those such places. Probably safe but that comes at a cost. Lovely staff but unmemorable food experience. This is unfortunately what eating in Myanmar... More

Jan 21 Dinner at the hotel is always a welcome expectation. Who wants to go off-property after a thorough bath and change of clothes? Spice Garden is mainly an Indian-themed resto. The hotel's owner and GM happens to be a very generous and detail-oriented man, Ashwin Kumar. The professionalism of, not only the front and housekeeping staff, but also the... More

We had the whole upstairs to ourselves as all the good tables where taken so besides the quiet atmosphere the food more than made up for it. I have eaten indian food all over the world and this was some of the best I have eaten.

Ate here as it's in our hotel and was convenient after returning from a days sightseeing. Menu is mainly Indian although there are a few alternatives (e.g. Fired rice, fried noodles or pasta dishes and a few pizzas). It's situated alongside the hotel in the gardens in a nicely designed and airy building. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Food... More

A bit off the beaten path (unless you're staying at the Hotel on the Red Canal) but it's worth the trip. With a master Indian chef in the kitchen, Spice Garden blew us away. It was one of the best meals we had in town (with the exception of the mohinga at the Shwe Pyi Moe Cafe on our last... More
