The first thing to note is that it’s hard to get to, so you’d think the food quality must be high to make it worth the journey. More on that later.
The bamboo bridge doesn’t exist any more so you have to take a boat, but it is quite a distance from the original bridge at both ends. If you ask them to tell you where to find a boat they refuse to send a map. So instead I sent one with an X marked and they said yes, but a bit to the right. It turned out to be nowhere close. It’s much closer to where Google maps shows Oppa cafe.
When you get there you might have heard about their 2-for-1 on cocktails before 7pm. However, you have to have both at the same time. No option to have one and then another when you’re finished, so the second one is warm when you get to it. That’s certainly not a happy hour in my mind. It’s just a single drink spread over 2 glasses.
The menu is very short so difficult to please everyone. The prices are also higher than most places in town (100,000K for most dishes) though several included rice, which is often an extra in town.
Most people opted for the bbq/hotpot fusion, which looked really good (prices starting at 205,000K, which they say serves 2 for most people) but we stuck to the normal menu.
The Mekong river weed was a good appetiser. The spicy buffalo skin in chilli sauce that it came with was a great accompaniment.
We followed with pork in ginger and eggplant with pork (not because we’re mad keen on pork, more that they don’t offer much that isn’t pork or buffalo and the latter is very chewy). Nevertheless, both were tasty, albeit that the pork with ginger lacked a bit of seasoning and neither had any spice whatsoever. However, the staff were accommodating and the latter was resolved quickly with a small bowl full of chopped chillis.
Overall, after the disappointment of the happy hour drinks and unwillingness of the staff to share a map over WhatsApp we were pleasantly surprised by the food, which made up for the initial issues. The staff all seem to have started yesterday, as they were all pretty green, but again they tried to be helpful and mostly succeeded.
It isn’t somewhere I would go back to on this trip, given the very limited menu, but it was a nice meal with a great view of the Nam Khan river.

You need to take a ferry to the restaurant. The ferry costs 10,000 yen for the outward trip, but you can get a cashback when you pay at the restaurant. There is no charge for the return trip. Because it is outdoors and in a bamboo grove, I was worried about the mosquitoes, but they lit a mosquito coil for me, so it was fine. There are several dishes, such as sindat and Lao set menus. We ordered sindat because we were there. We chose buffalo meat. The food tasted good, and we ordered rice separately, so we were full. It may be arranged for foreigners. The price is relatively high. The staff can speak English. Smoking is allowed at the seats. In addition, I contacted "+856-20-55-104-817 / +856-71-410-185" to change the reservation time, but both were told that it was a "wrong number". Email is available. Therefore, it is better to make a reservation by email.

Beautiful views out to the Old Town over the river, we had a great meal served by attentive & friendly young team. Although BBQ is their speciality, we opted for seaweed and eggplant starters and grilled whole fish & buffalo in ginger as mains.
Tasty, served with real attention. Would highly recommend.

Worst service in town. Came as a family group of 5 adult and 1 child (4 years old). Ordered 3 beers, 1 mojito, 1 mango smoothies and 1 apple juice, 2 platters number 2, 1 pork lab, 1 fish stew in banana leaves with child menu of kfc chicken (incl mango sticky rice). Took 40 minutes for the drink to came out. Took another 15 mins for food to come out slowly plate by plate. They didn't even give us cutlery and plates. 2 hours after and we still sitting around waiting. It's ridiculous.

Dear Trang,
We are so sorry that you had a bad expérience at our restaurant. Out staff do try their Best to serve and cook rapidly. In February we had a couplé of new waiters, that are normally supervise by order one. But some nights in February were so busy, that it is possible that the new waiter were not supervised correctly. We are very sorry about this. Please be assured that since than, they have improved and are still improving every day to serve our customers better. Hope you give us another chance. Best regards

I don't know why the rating is so high. Is it just because of the novelty of having to take a boat to eat? It's annoying to have bamboo leaves floating on your plate while eating, and there are flies flying around all the time. We ordered the traditional Lao sausage set and steamed fish set. The sausage set didn't come with roasted eggplant sauce, which was very unauthentic; the sticky rice was only brought after I reminded them. The overall experience was not very good.

This hotel is on the other side of the river and there is a small boat to cross the river. The boatmen charges 10.000 kip but gives you a ticet and the restaurant gives you this money back once you clear the bill. Since I went alone I did not try their famous hot pot (which is for at least 2 people) but had a Mok Pa instead (steamed fish cooked in banana leaf with local basil and other herbs). It was very yummy. The location is great and the staff is friendly and efficient

This is an excellent and atmospheric restaurant on the far side of the NamKham River. Access is temporarily more difficult as the flood works have removed the seasonal bamboo bridge and the boat ferry service. Even so it's worth the tuk tuk ride or 25 mins walk from downtown Luang Prabang. Lovely seating area above the River and impressive Lao menu. The starter platter was especially good. The two4one offer on cocktails before 7-00 is worth getting there early for. Highly recommended.

The Lao BBQ is simple, but rally special as you grill your meat on the top of a metal plate where at the edge your cook vegetables. All at the same time, all on a basket with glowing coal. So, the flavor of the crispy meat I floating into the soup with vegetable. A blast of tastes.
The restaurant’s location and atmosphere are great - several terraces with wooden roof directly at the river next to the small bamboo bridge. Here you may choose to sit on tables or lie on the floor. Service is friendly and quick.

The Loatian form of raclette. In the square table standing in the middle coal is ignited, above it comes a metal cover, which is filled with broth at the edge and represents the grill in the middle. In the slow-cooking broth, the guest can pickle noodles and vegetables at will, while in the middle the meat, thin delicate slices, is fried. As a result, you have a delicious meal and a great experience.

A romantic and well-kept place. Soft lighting and beautiful view of Mount Phousi. You can choose whether to eat lying down or sitting. The Laotian BBQ formula is really tasty and allows you to enjoy with a stove with embers placed in the center of the table, a meat cooked on a perforated brazier... highly recommended

This restaurant is just over the river. There are several options to get there. If the boat is running jump on it, if not you can walk or take a short and low cost taxi across to it it really is worth the effort. It has a lovely ambience and the best tables are almost outside but with some shelter. A speciality is the hot coal BBQ which you do at your own table. Very different and delicious. The cost is great value and the food quality excellent. They offer nice cocktails and the house red wine by the glass was very drinkable. Overall we had a lovely evening and thanks to all the staff.
I would like to make a special mention to Anon our 17 year old waiter who took the time to speak to us in very good English. We wish him well in his ambitions.

Aside from the rather unusual journey to the restaurant (on a longboat and after going down and up rudimentary wooden stairs), the experience in this split-level restaurant is very pleasant. We chose the chicken fondue with vegetables, garnished with garlic and chili peppers. The container is placed on the table under a fire in a cauldron and the broth is added afterwards. Very very good and pleasant experience.

We had to wait over 1 hour for our food. They got our order wrong and did not want to change it. They also did not tell us that we had to order rice separately so we had to order and wait for it after we already had waited so long for our food. The food in it self was avarage tasting and overpriced. The setting was however really beautiful and the drinks were tasty with a good 2 for 1 offer.

A romantic location, tiered eating areas with dark painted solid hardwoods to frame the most magnificent view. We ate delicious food and stared in awe. A walk across the lamp lit bamboo bridge tops it off.

The restaurant is opposite the opposite side of Nam Ou, and there's a short boat trip from LP peninsula. We had Sindad, Lao BBQ. It was delicious and had a lot of veggies, which were boiled in hot stock. The atmosphere was coxy and the staff really friendly. Absolutely worth to visit!
