Booked in person in the afternoon during a tuk tuk drive around town and enquired if transport was available after dinner completed. Assured by the young lady that tuk tuks for return to city centre were available, warned that price increase to KIP50k was most likely as night time. Accepted the position.
Came for dinner at 6.30pm - luckily I had the booking!
Enjoyed the five selection tasting platter after a Lao whiskey honey cocktail and a nibbles plate of dried bamboo/kaffir lime leaf.
Rating the food as 4* for “local” contest and taste. The dried buffalo was a first experience for me.
Alas, no tuk tuks for my return.
Well, the young lady recalled her earlier indication to me and went all out to “snare” one for me. I admit I was concerned how to get back after waiting for over 15 mins but she kept checking up and down the street, I think she tried to phone one as well but he was unavailable. Kept letting me know she was on the task and grabbed one for me in the end.
I want to reach out and acknowledge this young lady’s efforts and her help. Thank you.p for your help, sorry I can’t mention your name as I did not ask. I just ran for the tuk tuk when I had the chance.
Overall, the place was very good, the food selection was welcome being local food, my selection was great and would love to return next visit.

We stumbled across this restaurant come cooking school, great find. We had one of their set menus, which enabled us to try different types of local food in a safe environment. As each dish was served, it was explained what it was and how to eat it. Come early or make a booking as they were turning people away.

This is a delightful restaurant. The staff are very knowledgeable about the menu and when we asked they were quick to tell us we had ordered enough. The BBQ fish was delicious. Would definitely recommend this . Our starter of seasonal Lao tastes with sticky rice was a good share dish. Worth booking to be seated on the veranda

It is next to the Apsara Hotel, facing the Nam Khan River. It is a restaurant and cooking school, in which you can sign up for a course. I made the Reservation by email.
To have a first contact with Laotian cuisine, I decided to order a dish called Luang Prabang Tasting Platter, which was a combination of 5 small dishes, and included the following:
- Khai Penis: appetizer of dehydrated river vegetables
- Jeow Bong: Luang Prabang Hot Sweet Chili Paste with Buffalo Skin
- Orlarm: thick soup with chicken, eggplant and local vegetables
- Sai Oua: Luang Prabang pork sausages
- Soop Pak: steamed local vegetables with sesame seeds and herbs
Accompanied by sticky rice.
Perhaps it was too fast an entrance to local cuisine. Without being bad, the flavors seemed so different that I could not say I liked it either.
What I really liked was dessert, Khao Gam, or sticky purple rice with sesame, coconut and banana.
I ordered a tamarind juice.
The service was adequate and in the end the bill was about 270000 kips, something between 12 and 13€

It is 4 stars if you never had Lao food as it is a good intro but if you have eaten Lao Food on the street, you will be very disappointed. The grilled fish on the street is under 100k, here it is more than double ( 220k), and half the size, albeit has accompaniments. The taste of fish on street is amazing. Here, subdued. It is served with a sweet peanut sauce, served to
" Western Taste". By the way , we had an extensive discussion about our desire for Lao taste, yet other than papaya salad, nothing was adjusted.
The dessert for 2 was big disappointment and only the sticky rice dessert was tasty. The melon dessert was not good at all. Papaya salad was excellent and served spicy because we asked for it that way. Sadly did not meet our expectations. And it was pricy compared to other restaurants. We had stuffed lemongrass which again, was very bland and sauce tasted of sweet peanuts. Nice atmosphere overlooking river. All Westerners " trying Lao food". Go to the real Lao night market ( not Western one)

After being seated and waiting for 5 minutes while 3 males waiters walked around me, I asked for a menu. A female server came and politely took my order. A male server brought the main course and somewhat explained how to eat the meal. I did not understand clearly because 4 minutes later the same waitress came and told me how to eat he food and what not too eat in the nicest was possible. The food was very good, original. But the remainder of the time I was there, theale servers (2) just walked around, pretending to be busy teasing each other
I was disappointed in the lack of maturity and professionalism. Suffice it to say, I won't be back. The male staff is not up to par with the quality of the food.

Very nice terrace overlooking the very uncrowded street by the Nam Khan river, the introductory menu to local flavors very well spicy on demand and very well presented and tasty satisfied my evening appetite.
Perfect service and in very good English.
The fruit juice with soy milk accompanied by bamboo chips excellent.
For a very reasonable Award.
Thank you for this evening at Tamarind.

We took one of the tasting menus and it was wonderful. Fine dining Lao style a bit more stylish than the average Lao street food but not overdone as such still affordable prices. The place is crowded so reservations at least a day upfront are a must!

Tamarind graciously gave us a table, even though they were moments away from closing the kitchen. Knowing nothing about Laos cuisine, we chose the “Explore Laos” option, a tasting menu of numerous delicacies. We absolutely loved everything they gave us, and were particularly bowled over by a dessert of sticky rice with tamarind. The service was friendly and courteous, the price very reasonable and overall it was a lovely experience.

I booked this restaurant (because it is always full) for a dinner, as a solo traveller. I was given a nice table but unfortunately my dinner was far below my expectations and from the positive feedbacks I have read about Tamarind.
No one took care of me, there was a visible difference between me (alone) and other tables (with 2 or 4 people), a nice trainee took my order but I asked for a NON spicy soup and they served me a very spicy one (there was a whole pieace of chili which i chewed and nearly cried!). The I also ordered a main dish which was served at the same time as the soup, with the result that both dishes were cold when I managed to finish them.
The only positive note on this place are the prices, which are not too expensive and in line with other similar restaurants, where I was however treated in a much kinder way.

Too too busy and full most of time. My friend and I had dinner here. The restaurant was full and they did not have enough staffs to run. Taking long time to prepare and when you order or ask for something You have to look around and keep waiting…
Food… really average or below..
but nice decoration … That’s it - I found the same street food with better tastes and far much cheaper. Known that Can’t compare like that but be very honest. Food just okay

This restaurant specializes in Lao cuisine (meat, fish, vegetarian). It is located "almost" on the banks of the Nam Khan River. It has a small room and a terrace. It's a small establishment so reservations are helpful. We were seated in the interior room. The reception was quite cold towards the room which quickly turned out to be too hot to be comfortable (so prefer a place on the terrace). The food didn't totally wow us. Receiving pork ribs cooked on a “rosé” BBQ is not usual. The other dishes were good, plentiful but "nothing more". I generally refer to this type of cooking as "family". We all came out quite mixed except for the guest who had fish who was delighted with his very hearty dish. The only really positive surprise was the bill because all the dishes were at truly “Laotian” prices. This explains our rating: 3* for the cuisine and hospitality and 1* as a bonus for the very competitive prices.

This restaurant takes a serious attitude towards good classical Lao cuisine. Every dish is very carefully prepared with a knowledgeable and informative staff. Nice location overlooking the river and reasonable prices.

Our local guide recommended Tamarind for authentic Laotian cuisine and we were not disappointed. We started with a Basil Gin and Tonic that was creative and delicious. My partner ordered and enjoyed a Tofu Laap that was full of fresh chopped herbs. I ordered Pun Pu - local marinated whole tilapia that is barbecued and served with a variety of fresh herbs, vegetables, noodles and a delightful peanut sauce. It was a bit messy as you load the fish and condiments into lettuce leaves to eat, but fun and super delicious. I only wish we had another free night to try some of their other dishes.

Excellent tasting menu of Laotian cuisine accompanied by all useful explanations (400,000 kip or $20 for two excluding drinks). Nothing to complain about in terms of quality/price ratio
I advise you to make a reservation because in the evening it fills up quickly but they serve late (we had a reservation at 8:30 p.m.).
