We absolutely loved the food at Taka. We ordered Caesar salad and pork baby back ribs to share as our appetizers, they were both delicious. The flavoring on the ribs was impressive and they easily fell right off the bone. We also ordered the red dragon and spicy tuna avocado rolls to share. Most spicy mayos are without any kick, their’s made my lips tingle so it was a true spicy mayo. Waitress was friendly and ambiance was wonderful. It did take a lot longer for our sushi rolls to be brought out than we expected considering the number of empty seats there at this time we went in the early afternoon. Restaurant overall, as well as the bathrooms, were very clean. Would revisit again for sure!

We were all very pleased with our drinks: the sake and the smoked old fashion. The Soba soups were enormous - way too much for a starter and not exceptional. What was innovative and exceptional was the vegetarian Green Roll! The vegetable tempura was also very good. The service was attentive given we were there on a very busy Saturday night.

They ere packed on a Friday night but we only waited about 7 minutes. I live near a superb Japanese restaurant which has much better fare for half the price so my review may seem more severe than most.
I thought that the food was just good. I ordered 2 sushi rolls which were too much. They are pretty big so in retrospect I should have ordered 1 and left a little room for dessert.
Some of their tables were high table style and not very comfortable. The atmosphere was lively but noisy.
I give it 3 1/2 to 4 stars .

Taka has a wonderful staff and their vodka/sake martini is ultra-phenomenal, but the sushi is the same as one would expect just about anywhere.
With the exorbitant sushi prices, I thought the maki, nigiri, and sashimi would be a step above but that didn't happen.
Yes, the rolls were large but the flavors were weak.
The worst part: The nigiri is roughly have the size as one would expect. In fact, they seemed to have been crafted for kids in lieu of adults. At most restaurants I've ventured into, sashimi comes in 3 pieces. Ata Taka, you only get two pieces and they are quite small. Even so, the mackerel was memorable.
I would only recommend a roll or two from here, but if you're going for drinks, the bartenders really know what they are doing.

It is nice to have a change of pace in Asbury Park. This Asian-(ish) restaurant could serve that purpose. The food however is a rung below what you’d expect unless you crave oil soaked entrees. Although most of the staff is pleasant enough the servers were not only rude but treat you like you are in their way when they plop the food on your table. The only good thing about the wobbly tables is that they seem to move in sync with the equally wobbly chairs on the outdoor dining patio.
All in all this place could use some improvement.

Went to Taka over Memorial Day weekend and was happy to see that it survived COVID and was quite busy! We have dined at Taka before and our experience was, once again, excellent. It is a big space with indoor and outdoor seating. We had a very attentive and personable server who made great recommendations. The food was delicious- shu mai, edamame, tempura, rolls, salmon- our group had a bit of everything! The portion sizes are good too- just the right amount of food. The vibe is very lively and fun and you won’t
go wrong at Taka when looking for sushi in Asbury!

Ate there and was blown away.
And they are super safety conscious when it comes to COVID-19. Masks and social distancing are strictly enforced. We ate outside and the place was very, but the tables were arranged at the proper spacing.
They have a scanner code on the table that you load onto your phone where you can access the menu, which was a clever touch that eliminated paper menus and touching.
The food is top notch Japanese. The rolls were out of this world.
The drink menu was extensive and tasty, with daily specials.
The service was great.
The food arrived quickly because they limit you to a stay of 1.5 hours.
This is a hip place with a very diverse crowd and was by far the place we ate at in Asbury Park. Loved the whole vibe of the place.

Our Taka experience was great ! Our waitress could not have been more attentive and made great recommendations. Of course we got the short ribs because there were just so many great reviews about them and they were fabulous, but we had to go a little more authentic as well and got a jun-San sushi roll and Taka poke bowl and the Shumai dumplings, all fabulous the poke bowl was loaded with tuna, I might recommend a little rice in the bottom of the poke bowl to off set dark bowl and would enhance visual appeal, and the green beans on the short rib platter were cooked perfectly but maybe a quick fry with garlic would be yum....in case the chef is reading this...we will be back !!

We ordered sushi and soup at Taka two days ago. Sushi was not great but main issue is that two members of my family developed severe vomiting the next morning. We will never visit this place again.

Food tasted great but......my daughter and husband got sick after eating. They both ate her seared tuna dish so we’re suspicious. Chicken teriyaki was good but different than what I’m used to. Other kiddo loved her rolls.

Great sushi but they also have plenty of non-sushi choices if you're with someone that doesn't like sushi or you're just not in the mood. Love the bar scene here, they have a little lounge area too. It's pretty big and they have a nice outdoor seating area, too. Fun place to go out on a night.

This is a very popular, super busy sushi/japanese restaurant in Asbury. Can't complain about the quality of the food, everything was fine, tasty, but variety in menu is not spectacular. This is great for a Jersey spot but considering how big Asbury has gotten in recent years I wish the menu options were a little more exciting, a little more adventurous.

First time dining here and it was wonderful. It reminds me of a great NYC restaurant in the late 90s but for now. The sushi offerings were amazing, the gyoza was so good we ordered 2 for our daughter. The chicken Katsu and Sesame seared tuna was all done perfectly. And we ended with Mochi ice cream, peanut bar and happy smiles.

My wife, son, daughter and I ate dinner at Taka in Asbury Park in October 2020. We had a nice table outside. The tables were adequately spaced apart and the staff wore masks. We had gyoza which were delicious. They were not fried and had a very soft taste. There are five gyoza in one serving. Maybe the best gyoza I have had including Japan itself. I had spicy salmon and spicy tuna rolls which I shared with my daughter. There are 8 rolls in one serving. My wife had lobster rolls. My son had chicken katsu. We all shared bittersweet chocolate cake for dessert. All the food was delicious and the service was very good. I hope to go back again soon.
