The river Ganges has two tributaries: Varuna and Assi - from there comes the name to one of the world's oldest cities - "Varanasi ". This restaurant at Taj Ganges is also inspired by one of these rivers.... My dinner experience here (07 May 2017) was unhindered like the river Varuna. Smooth and peaceful. I opted for "Varanasi Satvik Thali".... More

We ordered the Indian usual with the help of our waiter. While we are not much for Hot & Spicy, our waiter did help us to tone it down. One word I learned in India is to use "BLEND" instead of mild. We had soup, appetizers followed with a Kebob platter with rice. Overall, it was an OK place. Nothing... More

My brother has written a full detailed review about how the service of this restaurant is a disaster. So I would just briefly like to say that Varuna's service is the worst I've ever received from a luxury hotel. Go there only if you don't mind some rude staff with dull faces. You can have the same quality of food... More

Varuna has to be the worst experience I've ever had in a luxury hotel's restaurant. Being a Gateway, I never really expected the ambience to be exemplary, but Taj has made a name for itself for courtesy and that is something I was looking forward to. Okay, so we went to Varuna because it was the authentic North Indian restaurant.... More

We stayed 2 nights at the hotel and ate dinner twice at the Varuna. The waiter was very good as helping us choose dishes, and all were very good. Wine can be served too!

I ordered the most expansive dish at 2200 rupee, meat (mutton) and wine. The india wine is pretty good, but the meat is poor in quality. It is too dry to eat, and taste far below my expectation. The only thing good is dish is very large, good for several people as I only ate 1/5 of it.
