Got here for lunch right after I arrived in the city. My local friend said that the restaurant is normally very packed and difficult to get a seat. When I came, so many queque from bike food delivery. Good that my friend had arrived and...managed to get a seat. We ordered the famous fish head cooked in curry. It is really good. The fish head is big, can be eaten by 4 people. We ordered rice that has topping (vegetable and potato cracker). We only add 1 more dish in addition to the fish head and we can't finish the food. The restaurant is hot, no aircon and it is kind of small. When we ate, several people have waited to get our seat. Price is very decentMore

Had dinner here with my big family & we all enjoyed the food. The fried chicken was superb, the fried potato slice & the vegetable are nice. The fish head curry was served in a hearty portion & it was awesome. Even the chili was...very tasty. The place is clean & the staffs were helpful. Truly recommendedMore

Pondok Gurih is a Padang restaurant that serves high quality Padang dishes at affordable prices and fast service. So that when we come to the restaurant will be greeted by the waiter, to order the menu. The choice of Padang cuisine is very diverse, ranging...from fish head soup, rendang meat, goat curry, jengkol and others. We will eat with rice wrapped in banana leaves, and we will eat using banana leaves on the table. The sensation is what we are looking for. The average price of food for fish starts from IDR 40k. Taste with good standards. The atmosphere was crowded, so we had to queue to get the seat. The number of seats is around 400 pax. Parking is along the roadside in front of the restaurant, but it's a bit difficult to find it. Location from Medan Merdeka Square, about 2.2 kilometers.More

When I reached the restaurant, I was underestimating the food quality. Then the snapper head curry came to my table along with the rice wrapped in a banana leaf. Inside the wrap, there were also vegetables. This is the best Snapper Head curry I have...ever had.More

So if you here for lunch, so must have a lot of patient. This melayu/padangneess resto hv been full of gojek or people who wants to dine in or take away. And the best food here is " gulai kepala ikan kakap" ( snapper fish...head curry). With a big portion so you can eat together (for 4 person). I suggest you order 1 portion of fish head curry with " nasi bungkus " ( rice complete with sambal and vegetable) which you can hv nasi bungkus for dine in too. For drink, you can choose cane ice or liang tea so refreshing. Enjoy! 😊More

There are two best taste of padang food from my version in Medan, Pondok Gurih and Gumarang (see my other review). I cant really tell the difference, but their both will give you a different taste of their spices. I recommend to try both and...decide your own. The fried chicken is one of the best, they also give you chip when you take away, and for those who love spicy food, should ask for more sambal. The places is very crowded, if you can't wait, can always take away and ask for extra curry.More

This must be one of the best Padang / Minang food in town. Full of flavours (albeit on the heavier side of flavourful) and very filling. Serving portions are quite generous. As the title says: come, take your queue number, order your food for take...away, pay and leave then enjoy your food at the comfort of your home or elsewhere... Hot and little cramped at the restaurant itself. You come for the food, not the ambience.~~~More

I usually order Pondok Gurih to take away since it was a common secret that when you buy food for away in restaurant like this, you get bigger portion. What i like best here is the Ayam Pop. The chicken was nice and perfectly seasoned....Don't forget to ask for extra chip when you ate here.More

I came on a business trip and ate with my business colleagues. It's good food. If you don't speak Indonesia no problem. You can also get by with Mandarin or Hokkien. As 60% of population is Chinese Hokkien - it's great for SE Asian travellers....Go for the Jengkol, Sayur Nangka/Gori, Daun Ubi, Ayam Goreng (Kampung Chicken so not fatty), and Kari Kepala Ikan (Fish Curry). The shop owner's family will usher you in and cram you into a good spot. You can also order sugar cane from the guy outside and he will bring it to you. It's economical food - but in modernised cities, you'd pay $300 SGD for sitting of 6 people for what we ate. I think we paid only about $50 SGD.More

If you are a fish head 'gulai' lover, you should try this restaurant. The fish head cooked with cassava leaves make it tasted so delicious. Their also famous for fried chicken, spicy potato chips and green chili sauce. The restaurant always pack at lunch time....So I would suggest you to come before 12 pm to avoid long waiting. The price is quite reasonable with the food taste and quality.More
