really great, bustling Thai restaurant on a jetty over the water. Very underrated on TripAdvisor at the time of visiting (April 2017)!

Nice seafood. Good value for money. Loved the grilled seabass. And location is very good, by the sea where you get some fresh air,

Chow Lay on the pier is a great place for local fare. Very good sea food at reasonable prices. Has a very strong local flavor and can be very spicy for the outsiders. A great experience, of local Thai food and ambiance on the waterfront. Has more locals than outsiders.

We dined again at Chao Lay on our second visit to Hun Hin. Restaurant was very busy and clearly is very popular and the views out to sea are very pleasant. We ate the garoupa steamed with ginger and garlic which was very fresh but the fried calamari was craftily mixed with fried vegetables in lieu. Prices for fish and... More

With a restaurant jutting out into the sea, one would think that the overall experience would be completely favourable. Sadly, I found it to be overpriced and full of people that seemed to be trying to convince themselves that they were having a nice time. That said, the staff seemed to be efficient in serving overpriced and bland food that... More

I was in Hua Hin for 10 days and ended up going to Chao Lay twice because I had a very tough time thinking of another Thai restaurant of value. When you walk along the water there are 3-4 water front restaurants. All of the restaurants except Chao Lay has someone in front touting their place .. Chao Lay des... More

This is a busy restaurant with plastic chairs and tables! Always good food and fast service! Since there is such a busy place there is no worries about the freshness of the food!

This place was great 10 - 20 years ago, but a recent visit left us very disappointed. We had a similar experience as several other posters: very slow service, staff totally inattentive, food so-so and the seafood was not fresh. The worst was to see a staff member leaving a stall in the washroom without washing his hands after he... More

Since last visit this place has lost it's charm for us. Still very busy but no atmosphere, average food and staff. Would not go back again as better places in Hua Hin.
