Phi Banh Mi is a family run food stand offering a variety of sandwiches. All ingredients are fresh and except for the bread everything is prepared at home. We are happy to accommodate your dietary needs, vegeterians welcome. Fillings include your choice of: pork, beef loaf, pork liver pate, chicken leg, fish etc. You can enjoy the Banh Mi on site (small table and chairs) or as a takeaway.

Hands down the BEST Banh Mi in Vietnam!

I know it's a bold claim but I stand by it. I have been to countless Banh Mi places, including 'the best' in HCMC, Hanoi and Hoian, but Phi Banh Mi is WAY better. The bread is thinner than most yet crispy and fresh. The ingredients are packed with flavour and aren't overdone, just the right amount of each. I've tried 4 types and have loved all of them, including vegetarian so it caters for everyone. However, what makes this restaurant stand out is the family which runs it. I've been back to Pho Banh Mi twice in two year, and Phi and his wife are always extremely friendly and humorous with the customers. His prices are cheap (we bought 4 sandwiches and 2 drinks for 120), and Danny livens up the interior. Overall, this is one of my favourite eating experiences in my time travelling the world! Thankyou Phi Banh Mi, see you in 2 years!

Phi is the magic ingredient

Why is this place number one on trip advisor? We asked ourselves this question and visited this place on day one of our one month stay in Hoi An. Why not start with the best we thought? We asked Phi's wife, who was working at the time, "why are you number one?" She just smiled and said "just try your sandwich and see". Well let us tell you... we instantly knew why they are number one. The sandwiches are AMAZING. In particular is the spicy sauce. If they ask if you want it spicy - say YES! This sauce is home-made and amazing. It takes Phi two months to make each batch. And all the ingredients are great quality. We had to go out and try other Banh Mi in town of course to compare (including the famous anthony bourdain place... which is not worth the hype). We didn't like the Banh Mi at any of the other places. NONE of them compared. Over the course of the month in Hoi An, and countless meals at Phi Banh Mi, we were befriended by Phi and his wife and welcomed into their lives like long lost friends. We can honestly say we not only love the sandwiches, but also love the owners! It took a month, but we now understand that the real reason Phi Banh Mi is number one, is because Phi is the magic ingredient!

Great Banh Mi in Hoi An!

When we visited Hoi An last month, we walked to this sandwich shop and bought two banh mi – one was the Traditional Vietnamese (#1) and another one was The Phi Special (#11) for total of 60,000 VND ($2.60). We wanted to eat here but had time constraint. We came from the cruise ship that docked in Chan May. It’s a long way from the port to Hoi An, so we only had 2.5 hours to spend here. I knew this beforehand and came prepared. I put the sandwiches in an insulated bag that I brought from home and took it back to the ship with us. The sandwiches were excellent! The fillings were tasty and fresh. Everything came together very nicely inside the baguette loaves. It was so good, we forgot to take photos before we devoured them! Now we know why so many people are raving about the Vietnamese banh mi– one of this country’s culinary delights for sure! This shop is located in the northern part of the town – about 15-minute walk from the historic district. It’s worth the walk!

Best Banh Mi in Hoi An

This Banh Mi is outstanding coz they toast the baguette just before serving it so it has a crunchy exterior and a fluffy interior. With cream cheese, it is 5 stars for me. The boss is extremely friendly and offered to let me hold his giant pet iguana for a photo. Needless to say, I had to pass up on the opportunity. I even bought 10 plain baguettes back home with me even though it won't be half as good as Mr Phi's version.

This is my personal favourite banh mi joint in all of Vietnam, bread is fresh as are the fillings. The banh mi is toasted which is a great touch. Depends what you like but personally this is way better than Banh Mi Phuong which in my opinion is overrated. The homemade chilli sauce is to die for!!!

A must go in Hoi An

A must go when you’re in Hoi An! A ~ 10 Minute walk from the old town you will find a small stall and a room on the street in a rather local area. Inside you will find the best Banh Mi with marinated chicken, pork, fried egg, a month-long prepared chili paste and many possible fillings. We fell in love and had a second serving. Imo the extra avocado is not needed, though it’s only 20Eurocents, so might as well go for it. Prices are just like the other stalls, between 20 000 and 45 000 VND (for the all in phi special).

Recommended Banh Mi in Hoi an

We went to try Madam Khanh but as she was closed wandered back around the corner to family run Phi Banh Mi. We managed to get a table and really enjoyed our tradional, special and vegetarian washed down with cold beer from the fridge. One of our best Banh Mi of the trip.

Fresh, tasty Bahn Mi

Each time my wife and I visit Hoi An on holidays, Phi Bahn Mi is on the top of our list for a bahn mi. They range in price from 20-45k depending on the filling you want (11 menu items to choose from) and all the ones we have tried are so tasty - our favourite is the Phi's special. You can opt to take away or sit down at one of the tables and eat. Drinks can also be purchased all at very reasonable prices. We strongly recommend you visit and try for yourself. You won't be disappointed, and will be warmly welcomed by Phi and/or his wife Rose both of whom are extremely friendly and speak good English.

Some of the better banh mi we had in Vietnam, with fantastic vegetarian options. The family was really friendly and nice, and their gigantic iguana made for great in-meal entertainment! Folks here have expressed concern that its habitat is too small (the lizard really is huge), and we were wondering the same thing as we watched it while eating, but apparently it can leave it whenever it wants, because it crawled right out and zoomed (by iguana standards anyway) under our table and out to the sidewalk to bask in the sun. The owners then brought it a big plate of salad to munch on and we all enjoyed our meals together!

Best place for banh mi!

Visited Phi Banh Mi 5 times during our stay in Hoi An for every breakfast! Amazing taste guaranteed👌 As being not a fan of fat meat I found this place perfect for my preference and could finally enjoy Banh Mi in Vietnam. Chicken and cheese sandwich was just perfect, trying to find something similar in North Vietnam but no success so far. Definitely worth a try!

The banh mid were excellent. Chicken was well seasoned and cooked and the egg/cheese was equally good. Bread nice and crunchy and toasted and good flavor. Only disappointment was there was no avocados. (I think they were running low and saving it for their special bang mi). Would go again.

Top notch Banh Mi in Hoian. The very best?

We stopped by Phi's Bahn Mi because of all the good reviews, and what a deligthful experience. Several options and add ons (easy to order, because both Phi and his wife speaks English.) And what a service: We requested Phi about where to get whole roasted pork in Hoi An, and he went out of his way to hook us up with a local place where they served this dish. (You need to order one day in advance). Phi even went with us to eat the day after, and we had a phenomenal evening at this local place. Thank you so much, Phi, for a wonderful experience!!

Excellent banh mi, honest vendors. I’ve been to this place twice in the past few days. Banh mi is delicious. Fresh ingredients, they run out of some things late at night so you know you’re getting it fresh in the morning. Today I accidentally handed the owner 100k instead of 10k, he pointed out my mistake and handed it back.

Best Banh Mi. FULL STOP.

We found Phi Banh Mi on a TikTok video and went to try it out. As soon as we approached, Mr Phi directed us to a free table and was extremely friendly and welcoming. The menu is simple and offers a number of variations of Banh Mi and the prices are incredibly reasonable at around 20-30K (£1!!). Phi makes all the fillings himself including the pate and chilli. I can honestly say that this was the best Banh Mi we have had in Vietnam so far and we will absolutely be going back a number of times before we leave next week. On top of this, Phi is a really interesting character. He used to work as a chef at a luxury hotel but decided to start this own thing when he had kids. Phi knows Hoi An so he gave us some tips and even offered to let me come back early one morning if I wanted to learn to make banh mi. Were I not on holiday, I would have!!

excellent banh mi in a lovely setting

First meal in Hoi An, absolutely loved this banh mi place. Serving delicious banh mi with fresh ingredients from almost like a sitting room in the front of their house with a sweet little boy practicing some of his serving customers, and the grandparents eating their lunch at the table at the back. Lots of pics of the family on the walls too. Great service and value. Up there with the best we had in Vietnam for sure. With the added family run charm.
