This is such a wonderful restaurant in so many ways. We were warmly greater even though we were obviously not local. Hot tea and English menus were presented as soon as we sat down. The owners offered to explain any item if we needed any help deciding but the menus was very clear. I had the special wheat cold soba... More

Mountain yam + raw quail egg + fresh wasabi + fresh soba = awesome. The nama beer and tempura moriwase was great too. Sort of a trek from the station but worth it.

The soba was just ok, and prices were pretty high. When we dined there, the only people coming in and out were turists. The service was great though, but I would recommend you to skip this one and just walk into a place which is packed with locals around the city, we saw many of those in the area.

Stopped here for lunch after arriving on the train. Quick service and an English menu. The soba was simple but tasty, we also got the tempura which was great.

We stopped for a quick lunch. It seems to be very popular with the locals and for good reason. The noodles were tasty and the broth was light and seasoned well.

This place is really a must if you want to try soba (noodles) - I tried the ones with meatballs of deer and were delicious. I also recommend the raw horse meet. And definitively you should try the Matsumoto Pale Ale Beer!

This tiny restaurant is a 2 min walk from the train and bus station. The service is quick, and the owner understood little bits of English which was great. We ordered the hot tempura soba, and it was absolutely delicious! A big bowl of soup and a generous serving of vegetables and shrimp. A filling fresh meal. Highly recommend it!

We had a good lunch here. The waiter gave us some good suggestions on the menu. It was fun to grate our own wasabi, and afterwards they brought the noodle water to the table so we could mix it up with our soy&wasabi dip so it became a little soup.

Had a great lunch of hot soba noodles in deep mushroom broth. Kids had tempura which was crispy and light with cold noodles. Plenty of grate-your-own wasabi if that's your thing. Beautiful restaurant inside. Helpful English speaking owner/waiter. Well worth tracking down in Matsumoto.

Live up to its name and reputation. It should be your defining experience of a good soba. The noodle house is a picture perfect one, hidden in an alley, small table with comfortable space. The owner is very friendly and explained how to enjoy the soba in the local way. The food is definitely refreshing under the summer heat. The... More
