Date no Gyuutan specializes in beef tongue. You can either get a teishoku (set meal) with the standard gyutan, rice and soup, or you can order a variety of small dishes to share. Grilled beef tongue became a Sendai specialty during the American occupation when it was one part of the cow not consumed on the bases. I arrived in Sendai on a very rainy evening with a friend. While walking to APA Hotel Itsutsubashi we spotted Date no Gyuutan on the opposite side of the street. I lived in Sendai for over 12 years and travel to Japan 4 or 5 times a year on business for the last 10 years. "Date no Gyutan" is one of my favourite restaurants.
