Arrived around late afternoon for lunch, the place was crowded and hot even though they have fans blasting around. Food ratings: Mango Lassi (Really good) Teh (Average) Chicken Grill Biryani (Chicken could be softer and the dish was overall bit dry, but the nasi biryani was among the best I've ever had) Butter Chicken (Good) Mixed Vegetables (Good) Prawn Biryani (Really good but pricey) Overall I'd say the food is very good albeit having controversial pricing. Service was nothing special and waiters take time to respond.

The restaurant was so full! We gave our orders, and were seated for half an hour. After that, we received news that there was no more food left. I'm still giving this location a 3 star because of the entire experience - a testament of how much people really want to eat in Kapitan. We'll try it again, sooner or later. Hopefully to fill our bellies with actual food this time. The cuisine served looks delicious!

Last night in Penang and popped in for a quick snack. Made it plain we weren't that hungry and ordered an onion roti, a roti with chicken and a beef Rogan Josh. Ordered one drink between two and immediately got hassle to order one more, declined several times. Told no roti chicken so I said ok, just a roti and we would order an extra butter chicken at extra expense, more attempts at upselling another main but again I said no as it was too much food. Three mains came anyway and I was told that's what I ordered, put the extra dish on the next table in protest and said just bring one other plain roti. Hard stare. Got given the bill which was correct in the end, given change with a hard stare. Obvious attempt at ripping off what he thought was a naive tourist. Bad attitude. Food was overall good but the beef in the Rogan Josh was inedible fat and gristle. Much better food to have with much friendlier attitude almost everywhere else in Penang. Avoid

Not safe for women. The male waiters in this restaurant were very creepy towards me, all of them staring directly at me the whole time I was eating. Even when my partner and I looked back they didn't stop staring. The worst atmosphere in a restaurant I've come across over 2 weeks in Malaysia. Shame on them.

I've eaten lamb or mutton rogan ghosh many times in many countries so have an idea what it should be like. Whilst the taste was fine, it was mainly bones. When I complained, the waiter implied that this was normal and seemed amused. Definitely won't be back and not recommended for either food or service. With a 'service' charge surprise added to the bill, I paid MYR 30 including a cheese nan (good) and apple lassi (minus discernible yogurt). Many meals on the street for around MYR 10 have been better than this. Actually, all of them.

I had been here many times and this time I went there after many years just to see if there's any improvement in their standard, but I was grossly mistaken and totally disappointed. The waiter didn't bother even if I had been sitting on the table and looking around for someone to take orders. There were only a few people & most of the tables were empty. Finally I had to shout and wave to a waiter who accidentally looked at me and took my order. I waited & waited and waited and it was almost 45minutes that my simple order of 1 plain naan never arrived. Finally I had to ask the same waiter about my order and he waved to me to wait. Finally he brought the naan. When I touched it, it was cold! I was so cross that why this restaurant is so famous! First, they took so long to bring my order and then brought a cold naan!! I refused to accept it and asked him to give me a fresh naan. He reluctantly took it back and brought the other naan and to my utter disappointment, it was almost like unbaked. (See picture) I was so annoyed by this time that I just finished eating it as I was very hungry and decided to never to come back again at this lousy place. They never fail to disappoint. This restaurant is over rated and there's nothing special about it. They now have this stupid robot just to attract customers, but it is not going to improve the worst service standard and food quality! These gimmicks won't work!

Mega popular spot for all night dining. This place is in a critical spot on Lebuh Chulia. On the edge of 'Little India' and close to the bar and night club district on Penang. People of all races and creeds patronize this place. Of course all foods are prepared in a strictly halal way. So no pork and no alcohol and little in terms of seafood. Now to us: Chicken Briyani Claypot - generous portion of chicken on wonderfully fragrant rice Alu Ghobi Masal - delicious Juices and Salt/Sweet Lassi - perfect accompaniment to the foods. No evidence of any watering of the juices. Three hungry patrons eat for RM 68.50. Where else can we get something at this price? Despite this place being full, service was quick, extremely efficient and friendly!

Actually its for Kapitan across from Queensbay Mall and it was food delivery. I ordered Fried Fish and they sent fried chicken. I called to complain and they were very rude, saying just eat the chicken. Even the chicken was not edible.

I read some reviews and thought of trying it. The tandoori chicken is well cooked and more than enough to fill my stomach hence it would be nicer if they had served chicken curry instead of dhal. Well dhal was alright as well. Naan bread was decent not the taste of garlic which I had requested but it's okay.

If you intend to go to a restaurant like Hameediyah you shouldn't expect service levels above and beyond. Its the food, taste and experience of eating Penang style Indian in one of the oldest established joints in the city that should attract travelers. If service comes before the quality of a restaurants food then this is not the place for you. 10/10 guys on the taste experience I received tonight. Kapitan chicken, the best I've eaten, well done. The mix of spices creating a tasteful Biryani rice supported by three beautiful vegetable accompanying sides engaged totally with the chicken to provide one of the best Indian feeds I have experienced. The service levels I received tonight was fun and engaging. I am so glad I got to try this place out before leaving this gastronomical city of Asian fusion.

Kapitan has really gone down hill. It used to be really good, the food was always tasty and of high quality. Not anymore unfortunately. Don't you just hate it when places think they can rest in their laurels once they have established a name for themselves? We went for dinner on a weekday evening, there were quite a few customers there but it wasn't really busy. Our waiter was pleasant and attentive enough so no complaints there. The food however, is another story. We ordered 2 mango Lassis which initially arrived without any yoghurt in, so they went back. The waiter said that the guy that made them was new and didn't know what he was doing! Our food order consisted of a chicken vindaloo, fried mushrooms, biryani rice and two garlic butter naans. The naans where so undercooked you could wondered if they had forgotten to turn on the tandoor. The vindaloo was a creamy onion and pepper affair, the kind of thing you might find in a poor Italian restaurant, no spices or chillies AT ALL! The waiter was as shocked as we were when we complained about it - but no offer of recompense or redress. The rice was passable but far from delicious. The mushrooms just seemed to have been thrown in with what i am certain was some of the leftover "vindaloo" sauce. All in all a very poor effort indeed I'm afraid, and needless to say, at higher than average prices for Georgetown, your money would be much better spent elsewhere. You should be ashamed of yourselves Kapitan!

I came here for iftar and ordered one tembikai laici juice And when i went to cashier i got shook looking at the receipt RM 25 just for a jug of TEMBIKAI LAICI. And even if the drink was good I’m fine for paying that much but this was like having a jar of sky juice. If kapitan management is reading this, do improve on this. Thank you

Had terrible from the minute we walked in was ushered upstairs without explanation the menu was different. When we did sit down we were then told we had 6 minutes to order and only 2 things on the menu were available. We conceded and ordered what was available. Received my order of cheese garlic naan and tandoori chicken. The naan appeared to have no cheese. When i come to pay i said to the waiter that no cheese was on the naan and he started shouting at me! For asking a simple question. I told him not to raise his voice and it turned into an argument. Then upon paying was told we also owed service charge which for one wasn't deserved and two is not common at all in Malaysia. We paid it anyway as was now, at this point fed up with the whole encounter. I went and found the owner to tell him my experience. Explained and was totally ignored, literally didn't even get a response. Food was also below average. I would never step foot in this hole every again and i would advise the same for anyone else

Our favourite restaurant in Penang! The naan bread is soft pillowy, warm and just divine. The dishes are tasty, they have lots of herbs and spices. It feels like home cooked meals here. We ate here again and again and noticed many locals eating here too. Generous serves. Pretty quick wait time.
