From the moment you walk through the sliding doors into the intimate space of Tribute, you’re transported back in time. Tastefully reminiscent of the 70s and 80s, you’ll find yourself amid Instagram-worthy surrounds. You’ll probably be greeted warmly by chef-owner Sonny, who’ll introduce you to...what’s on the current menu. His is an achingly beautiful story of filial piety that led to the opening of the cafe to share the exquisite flavours of his mom’s Peranakan (nonya) cuisine. No details are spared in recreating the authentic taste served up in nostalgic tiffin boxes. We ordered the nonya fried rice set, chicken rendang set, and yam rice set. It’s hard to pick a favourite as each dish was like a home-cooked meal made with love where only the finest and freshest ingredients are used. For a refreshing drink, order the Tribute’s Special which is an iced tea with just the right amount of nutmeg and mint to make you want to come back for more. (And we did!) If you’re looking for a spot that’s true to the spirit of Penang, where time stands still and you learn to slow down and enjoy the little surprises that await you at every corner, you won’t want to miss this place. (Tip: Curious explorers should step out through the back door for more surprises.)More
