George Town is chock full of small cozy cafes sequestered along even smaller streets and lanes within the old heritage quarters; some with unpronounceable names such as this. So much so there’s a guide written on the wall to help patrons. “Huy-gaa”! I would never have guessed. Other than a whole plethora of tapas, they serve pastas and several local specials. Have to say the Mixed Seafood (perfectly aldente) Fettuccine in Kesum Pesto was quite successful. As was the chicken cutlets and lamb croquets. Nice place to chill and relax when the streets outside get too scorching hot. And they don’t rush you and allow you to linger. Cool jazz always playing in the background. Prices are in the RM20+ to RM30+ range which is not unreasonable for a eatery like this.

Was looking for a place to celebrate my birthday and the venues I had in mind only does dinner or close. So luckily Hygge was opened! We were lucky to get a parking spot right opposite the restaurant as that area parking spots are hard to come by. It was quiet lunch with just a few tables and the menu is small but have interesting dishes which I've never tried before. We ordered their signature Laksa based on the reviews and it did not disappoint. The soup which is a mix of prawn broth and creamy coconut milk is so flavorful and not too rich. We also had the tapas and each dishes is just as good and presentation are spot. The waiter that served us was friendly and he checked on our feedbacks after the meal. Would come back to try the rest of the dishes

First time checking out this place with a friend after seeing an ad or something on social media. This place turns out to be a pleasant find - the staff is very accommodating, food is good in my opinion (their Truffle Flat Bread tapas has officially won my heart), place is cosy for a chat, hang out or just quietly working on com, and the owner is a friendly guy. Some people had wrong impressions about tapas thinking that the portion should have been bigger, but tapas is meant to be in small portions since they are small bites...Have yet to try their mains but will definitely come back again, thank you!

Cozy resto with many tapas choices. Interesting menu, good services and tasty food. We tried quite a lot of dishes, tapas, main course and dessert. If you are new, ask recommendations from waiters on their speciality, chicken kesum pesto pasta n Hygge Laksa. Very recommended! Car park was behind cafe or call resto for info. Love the food!

The weather was very hot and I was walking along the streets when i came across this eye catching restaurant. The aesthetic interior really appealed to me and caught my eye. As i walked in and sat down i had my expectations up high and needless to say they were met. Very tasty food nothing like i have ever experienced before. Strongly recommend everyone that is reading this to visit this restaurant.

Located near the famous Assam Laksa and Cendol place, Hygge serves up fusion food dishes. Chanced upon it as my partner and I were looking for a place to have our dinner.
True to its ratings and reviews, the dishes were truly yummy such that we went back a second time the next day.
We tried the Spanish Omelette, Paella, Curry Laksa, Clams, Iberico Don and the their cheesecake on both our visits there. The stars of the lot was the Spanish Omelette and Curry Laksa.
The first bite into the Spanish Omelette left us nodding our heads as we chewed through the thinly sliced and well spread out potatoes, coupled with the bacon bits sprinkled on top.
Next, the curry laksa had a complexity in its flavour and scent. We first smelled curry, then tasted laksa, prawn broth and curry all in one. The prawns in it was fragrant too.
As for the paella, it reminded me of a chinese mixed fragrant rice dish, with abit of meat bits found in it. Started off with a hit but as it tried up, we also felt that it was too rich. So make sure to share it with someone if you do not have a crazy appetite.
We loved the steamed clams especially with that strong butter taste and toast that came along with it. Reminded me of the traditional butter toast as I dipped it into the sauce. Yumms.
Lastly, we had the Iberico Pork Don. After reading the many reviews about it, we might have had our expectations set too high for some novelty! The meat was tender and easy to eat and tasted like a charsiew rice for us. Not mind blowing but a comfort dish.
As for the drinks, cocktails didn’t seem to be available. We settled for the soda drinks which impressed us time and again. The Butterfly Pea Assam Boi, Watermelon & Mint, Japanese Yuzu and Keylime & Lemongrass. Refreshing and well balanced drinks!
Service was great as well, with the staff checking in on us from time to time. It’s a must come back for us!
Heard that they are opening an Izakaya next door in a few weeks’ time. Shall check it out when we are on our travels in Penang again!

Called in at 17.45pm on 18 Jan 2023 to look at the menu. Only 2 customers and about 4 other empty tables showing reserved but for much later times (20.00pm). Decided to have 3 small plates with a couple of glasses of wine but was told I had to sit next door as they were fully booked. I was taken to a dark dimly lit other room and feeling demoted I asked why I could not use the reserved tables especially I would only be about 45 minutes. Evidently reserved means 'all evening' even though diners would not be arriving until much later. Consequently I left so cannot testify to the food. I will not return and they lost my RM100. Reminder to management....there were only 2 other customers and I was on my own. Poor business acumen from your staff. Disgusted!!

Found this cool looking place whilst heading out on NYE and dropped in for a casual drink and was so impressed after the chef spoke with us we promised him we would return to try his signature laksa. Following night was not disappointed with the result, very tasty and a laksa to die for - wanted more!!!! Dining experience and staff were very attentive without being overbearing which we like. Worth a visit.

Food here is excellent, I had the smoked duck with spinach and spagettini, and it was delicious, properly spiced and season.
The staff well excellent, courteous, efficient and explained the menu well. The menu is quite sparse in terms of descriptors, so I did have to ask.
The wine is also very drinkable, so much so, I'm about to order a second glass.
Plenty of birthday parties here tonight, so obviously a place for a special occasion.
Prices are reasonable, will come back

We had Christmas dinner here and were delighted by our choice. We had two small plates for starters: roasted cauliflower w/ lime aioli, and Spanish omelet w/ truffle aioli; both outstanding. For her main, my wife had spaghettini with wagyu beef/Iberico pork ragout and thought it as one of the best-ever bolognese style pasta dishes. I had the house laksa, chock full of flavor and seafood. She had two glasses of prosecco; I had two beers. Total bill, w/ service charge was 235RM and totally worth it. Outstanding service and ambience, too.

Was invited to dinner here by friends who also pre-selected our dinner menu. Nice restaurant and the food tasted good but was nothing extraordinary. Maybe I would have chosen other dishes myself. Anyway, we had a nice evening, the food was quite ok and good wine. Taking into account the range in Penang in terms of food and restaurants, this restaurant does not immediately stand out from the crowd - but clearly above average.

We ordered 8-9 different specialties, paired with red and white wine and a locally composed soda drink.
Everything was brought to our table with perfect timing and aquratesse.
The quality of products used was very high and the taste ofcourse is subjective, but we liked it a lot. Never too strong, never too much or too little, just adequate🤌
We have only five days here in Georgetown but we'll definitely go again.
Don't miss out. The experience was outstanding👌

The food was well cooked , however the portions are not at all good enough. We did let them know and to be fair they were mortified. They wanted to offer to provide something else. We declined. They then offered a sweet , it was delicious but it was one sweet to share between 3. If they had said nouvelle portions up front we would have not come in the first place. A real shame as the place could have great potential.

Fabulous little restaurant on a street in George Town with original buildings, great character. We had small dishes, appetizers and main courses and without exception every one was fantastic. Standouts include the kailan and woodland mushroom appetizer, market fish with tamarind & turmeric cream and tiny potatoes, and seafood stew. Also don’t miss the yuzu mojito!
