It’s still the best fine dining in Penang. It has tasty food, nice plating, fusion style, and cater to gluten free diet guest. Ambience is nice, cozy, stylish decor, some are private room. Set menu is flexible with additional fee with or without wine pairing...or other items. Staffs are efficient, helpful and friendly. Always lovely dinner here. Very recommended!More

Very reasonable price as they are having a promotion of Pay 3 free 1 promotion, which will only cost about Rm250 for the discovery menu. One of the server Sheena is very friendly to us and explain to us about every dish and wine we...had. The chef de cuisine Benny Yeoh is very knowledgeable, friendly, and funny. I heard that he was working in a Michelin star restaurant before and also did enter Asia Top 50 best restaurant for a few times. There was no doubt about the taste of food and also the service quality. The amuse bouche really surprise me with the flavor of tea does not overtake the flavor of other ingredient. For the Hokkaido scallop course, it is nicely seared at medium doneness serve with porcini sauce and truffle pomme puree, I can say it is very well balanced. For the Fish main course give me an authentic local flavor impact. The Nyonya sauce does really raise the flavor of the fish, and also the puffed fish skin is very crispy and surprisingly doesn't have any fishy taste at all. The elderflower sorbet in pre-dessert refreshing. For me, the star of the meal is the main dessert, it gave a wonderful ending to my dining experience. I can see a garden philosophy behind the course and the marmalade works very well in this chocolate dish to balance up the creamy flavor of the chocolate.More

This is a very nice place for fine dining. Good and romantic ambience. Staffs are friendly and well trained especially Hong Meng. Foods are appealing and scrumptious. Highly recommended!

We were staying in the hotel and contacted them prior to arrival to book as we were aware there was a special offer for guests. The cost for this now is 150 per person. Initially I was told of the 4 nights we were staying...we could only be accommodated on the Thursday. I agreed to this but then the booking confirmation came back for the Friday at 7pm. How it could possibly have mattered when in fact there were a grand total of 5 customers including us in a 42 seat restaurant is beyond me. We asked if this was normal and from the responses it seemed yes. It soon became apparent why. We asked about the different wines to be served as part of the pairings - regular and premium and the sommelier struggled to give much information at all. We gave up and decided to just order as we went starting with a reisling. It was served for tasting warm as they obviously don't keep in an appropriate temperature room. It was placed in an ice bucket but when I asked them to add salt to speed up the cooling this seemed to really confuse them. I did explain but really why did I need to. It became an even bigger issue later when they served the tokai and he actually argued with me he had looked on a website and its meant to be served at 12 degrees - I did a search in front of him and showed him clearly 5 to 7 degrees - but regardless if the customer wants it cool then why would that even be an issue - its my money! Anyway on to the food - it was mostly bland and where there was flavour it was very poorly balanced. We were served 3 canapés the first was foie gras with port wine jelly and gold leaf - the gel was over set and rubbery and the gold leaf weirdly chewy?! The tempura leaf with fish row was OK but the vast quantity of seaweed strewn over it meant you could only taste seaweed and the beef cheek croquette was OK but for those from the UK tasted like the inside of a Greggs steak bake.... Next up amuse buche of runny egg with butternut espuma - there was no mention of bunito flakes but that totally overwhelmed every other flavour. The butter was due to be flavoured with said bunito but I skipped this. The bread was shocking - French bread so chewy it was a risk for my teeth and the brioche weirdly semi toasted on one side - I can only guess placed under a hot lamp. Next up was fish - described both as sashimi and tartare but from later explanation about searing perhaps trying for carpaccio? But it was raw fish that had been placed under a hot lamp. Where pieces were under others they were raw and tasted fine but exposed parts where cooked and unpleasant. The rose wine sauce tasted of nothing at all and the basil oil was also weirdly tasteless - quite difficult to achieve with basil being so strongly flavoured. Next up scallops with truffle mash. Scallops were nicely cooked with a small sear and mostly raw but no truffle in sight just overwhelmed with poor quality truffle oil. I really struggle that a chef would have a palate this bad to completely spoil such a wonderful and delicate ingredient. At this stage they tried to rip us off for a second bottle of water when they had removed half the first one - now at 16 against a bill of over 730 it's not exactly a big issue but it's the principle. I discussed it with the sommelier who stated he was in charge and he agreed to remove the charge but at this time I also gave him clear and specific feedback on the food and he said he would discuss with chef. The next course was grouper which was so overcooked it was hard to cut and in the mouth felt like chewing cotton wool. The tasteless beurre blanc did nothing to help save it. My hubby did say that the skin was crispy but that doesn't make a main course! The singular pea shoot was tasty but again the whole dish covered in overwhelming seaweed. Customers 4 & 5 arrived at this juncture (8.45) and looked around the empty and unatmospheric restaurant and were appauled - in my view they should have turned straight back around. Main course was pork belly - now I accept fat is prized in Asia but I at least want flavour. Overwhelmed with honey - the promised ginger tasteless and the pickled red cabbage dots had not even a hint of vinegar to cut through the fat and sweetness. However undoubtedly the best dish they served - what does that tell you! I did continue to share feedback when asked but it was clear it was not welcomed and they had no idea what to say or do. They served a cherry palate cleanser but as I wanted to finish my drier wine and allow my dessert wine to chill before eating it they tried to clear it before I'd even touched it! In the end it was OK but nothing more - the taste was indistinct and more about oh look frozen with liquid nitrogen than any concern for flavour. The starfruit flower served on top was bitter and unpleasant. Finally dessert - a dark chocolate tube with chocolate mousse. I asked is this milk or dark chocolate mousse and was met with its just chocolate mousse.... The tube was untempered and subsequently poorly textured with no snap. The mousse tasteless. The gelato was OK but over frozen so hard to eat and the florentine soil actually tasted of bunito so is their hygiene so bad they cross contaminate with implements? I asked to speak to chef as he was sitting with the single customer who was clearly known to him and just chatting. He came and as I commented on the food just smirked and said OK. No apology no explanation nothing. The final little bits were an overly eggy madeline with no flavour, a basil and pineapple macaroon that tasted only of basil and the highlight of the night a pate de fruit passion fruit that was actually good. I signed for it all with no offer of any recompense and they even added service! The next morning hotel staff asked about the issues and when I was able to clearly detail them they actually asked will you be writing a review. They offered me a bottle of red wine as recompense but given I hadn't had any red wine the previous evening might it not have been better to provide a bottle I might have had an opportunity to enjoy? Anyway I was clear I would still be writing a review and for clarity paid the bill in full including service. In conclusion it's a restaurant where it all seems to be about our way rather than customer service and satisfaction.More
