Hidden gem in Penang, located in Prestige hotel shop/resto complex. It’s a sister resto from Communal Table Gen in Lebuh Presgrave. Tasting menu, great taste with Malaysian flavour. Another special thing is T’lur Caviar which is local caviar that’s fresh and served in a can...with fish at the bottom. Creative plating and surprising good taste! Friendly, helpful staffs and informative on menu. Nice ambience e and elegant decor. Chef Jhonson/owner will be helpful and cater you in case of any allergic on food. Very recommended!More

Yup, one may say it is quite expensive. But, how you know it without actual try to eat? The restaurant services us Malaysian food by using a modern twist. Besides, the service there is unique and refreshing! It is fixed to you if want to...go there for having fine dining with your business member.More

The title says it all. What a unique & refreshing experience. Malaysian fusion cuisine that really delights! We came for lunch & had the short course (4-course) for RM120 (US$30). (The 7-course lunch is RM180 ($45), & dinner course is RM300 ($75)). Blew the 3...of us away! We will certainly be back for the full dinner when we next visit George Town.More

This unique and absolutely original restaurant in Penang is worthy of at least one Michelin star if ever the guide came to Penang. It is fairly new and located in the Prestige Hotel ( which is also quite new) and the cuisine on offer is...absolutely fabulous in all aspects. A meal there is composed of multiple courses, each one of them unique and very distinctive and it has to be savoured and appreciated slowly over a few hours....it is not a meal to be rushed through. Dining here is bound to be a very memorable and glamorous occasion as the chef is so creative in his use of local produce and the presentations are so individualistic. It has a true blue locavore philosophy and pays respectful homage to almost 100% local ingredients in all his dishes. The very unique and beautiful food presentations makes every dish very Instagram friendly! This is food close to the heart of many Malaysians and Singaporeans but presented in an upmarket way. This is by no means a bad thing at all...it is about time we here in SE Asia start to appreciate and elevate the status of our own indigenous local produce instead of importing expensive ingredients (like caviar and foie gras) from the West. The very name of the restaurant “Gen” (or roots in Chinese ) is meant to emphasise this. Bravo to this very pioneering and original restaurant in Penang for looking at our local produce with a new found lens and interpreting and presenting them in such a special and uniquely creative manner. And kudos to this artist of a chef for finding his inspiration in our own local roots....More

Gen is a hidden gem in Penang! The chef is exceptional! The 12 course dinner was so well thought out and you can actually taste the chef's passion in all the dishes. The ingredients are all so fresh! Service was very attentive too. The only...complain is 'by the glass' wine list which is limited. As I was the only person drinking, there were not many choices.More
