📍Jawi House Cafe Gallery Serving perhaps the best Lamb Biryani in town, this Halal Restaurant definitely goes in the must-visit list for Penang's food. Helmed by Chef & Owner Nuril, he takes real pride in his Jawi Peranakan Heritage. The pre-war building in which Jawi...House located is beautifully decorated with pictures of family and Jawi Peranakan ladies who were the frontier of their unique heritage. In some ways similar to the Baba Nyonya, the Jawi Peranakan have strong Malay heritage with strait settler origins (Pakistan, India, Acheh, Etc). Let's dive in to the cuisine. We had the Levant Platter; with its hummus, babaganoush and the Pita Bread, it was delicious. Rich and perfectly seasoned, Michelle who normally does not relish raw salads finished the greens entirely. The Lamb Biryani was incredible. The meat was extremely tender, with spices that completed the whole experience. Accompanied with the Dhaal, it was most palatable. I would come here again for the authentic Jawi Peranakan experience. It has a class of its own, and it truly is art. This is the power of embracing heritage.More

Went here during MCO 3.0 for a business trip. This place was not really rave on google engines, and reviews were so so. However, glad that me & my partner went for it. We ordered chef’s recommendation prawn briyani 4/5 & armenian salad 3.5/5. The...food was good blended well with the ambience of the restaurant. Definitely worth the try!More

Modest pricing on the menu considering its prime location along Amernian Street. Food is full of flavour and staff are attentive/friendly. Suggest not to drive there if you can help it as parking will be difficult.

Authentic Jawi Peranakan food in historical setting. Went there for lunch, fast and attentive service. Wonderful sauces. Big portions and very good selection of teas. Highly recommended.

Jawi Peranakan cuisine at its best! Absolutely love everything about this place. The cosy ambience, beautiful wooden dining furniture and a historic display of photos through time gives it a nostalgic feel. My husband and I ordered a kerabu mangga, mutton briyani, colonial lemon tart...for lunch, all washed down with a mighty refreshing glass of nutmeg juice. Divine fusion of flavours and textures, a true gastronomic journey with every mouthful. It was definitely one of our best lunches in Penang - great service, reasonably priced too!More

We came here after Halab’s management dishonorably refused to honor our table booking number. Best decision we could have made. Penang is the food capital of Asia (i.e. of most of the inhabited world), and Jawi House Cafe is perched at the very summit of...authentic Penang deliciousness. The sauces (everything in Penang is in the sauces!) are the best we’ve ever experienced. The dahl curry masalah (typically good, but not awesome at restaurants) is stunning. The beef rendang (good almost everywhere) is the best example we’ve ever tasted. And the biryani rice and peanut rice dishes are delicious with the sauces. The kerabu manggo was an excellent and refreshing starter. The nutmeg and lime drinks were just right. And the sago pudding was a great way to top it all off. The waiters and chefs were especially friendly despite having a full house. They answered our questions about the recipies. At one point one of them even called the owner to confirm that the dahl masalah we’d eaten was the same one described on a certain page in her recent recipie book The Penang Feast. Tonight the management at Halab was unhospitable; the management at Jawi House Cafe made up for it with warm hospitality and top notch delicious dishes.More

This restaurant was well worth the evening, the Jawi Peranakan food was really delicious. We loved the nutmeg juice here, and the desserts were also great. We went here once for dinner and once for an afternoon snack. Totally recommend it. I regret not buying...one of the cool cookbooks they sold in the back !More

This restaurant is located within the George Town Heritage Zone, therefore parking spaces are rather limited here. That, however, does not mean that one should not be coming to dine here at all... rather, if you do choose to come to this area for your...lunch/dinner, then restaurant this would be a huge recommendation. It specialises in traditional Peranakan cuisine, with a mixture of Arabic, Northern Indian, Pakistani, asd well as Malay dishes. In addition, with a nice setup here (accompanied by some slow music), this place does provide a great ambience for a lovely dining session among friends or for business discussions. The only downside (if I were to find one) is probably the generally small portions for each dish.More

We walked to this restaurant on the advice of our hotel concierge - and it fitted the bill perfectly. Great friendly service, excellent food, reasonable prices and a lovely ambience. We paid £3.50 for a plate of hummus and bread and just £3.50 each for...our main courses of chicken (for me) and mixed vegetables (for my wife). Our bill for two people came to just £15! This was authentic Penang cuisine - but real quality.More

Maaf saya tak pasti. Elok call dan tanya. Tempatnya tak besar, kalau setakat 20 orang untuk birthday dan campur 10 orang luar another maybe cukup di groudfloor. Best is to call and ask for private arrangement.
