Lovely packaging with nice sweet and savoury plus 2 cups of Latte. Delivery during Fmco. Tasty mini burger, mushroom pie, smoked salmon and caviar on Mayo bread, cookies and muffins. Happy with the food!
We dropped in on the spur of the moment, and were very happy we did! Really enjoyed the food, delicious and lots of healthy options, also a light touch with the salt and fat was appreciated (often find food in Penang is too heavy on...the salt). Service was attentive, and the restaurant is immaculately clean.More
We were four, all living in Penang, an expat couple and a local couple, first time at The Book in the early afternoon for our usual Sunday lunch together, and as the only Westerner I was tasked to order: shrimp quesadillas, garden salad, three kinds...of sausages with dipping sauce, vegetable risotto and a scallop risotto to share. This quality is uncommonly good, the mix of flavors first-rate proving the talents of the chef, for a bill of about MYR150 or US$38.00, which by any measure is not expensive for four. I have no idea about the sandwiches, and having this lunch experience and having seen the full menu I've no interest in having just a sandwich. The interior is well done, in good taste and not pretentious or trying to be funky, very clean and the staff prompt, courteous and capable. There is parking for three or four cars in front, more if double-parked. Yeah, I like this place, and next time I try their wines.More
We started our dinner with the arrival of the BBQ roasted pork salad. The delicious "siew bak" (Chinese roasted pork) was tossed with some fresh garden greens, cherry tomatoes, croutons and a sesame seed dressing. It had the right combination of texture and flavours to...whet our appetite. The classic homemade mushroom soup was made up of a mixture of wild mushrooms. The soup was more like a pottage – thick and full-bodied. It was topped with croutons and drizzle with cream. We also had the Book Signature Soup. This popular soup had a light creamy base flavoured with saffron and lemongrass. Bountiful seafood treasures lay within including salmon chunks, scallops, clamps, prawns and squids. The crispy garlic toast complimented the soup well. For our main courses, my daughter ordered the sous vide chicken breast encasing a mushroom filling. Roasted cauliflower, broccoli, vine cherry tomatoes and mashed potatoes made this a winsome choice. One of my friends selected the braised barbecue lamb shank which sat on a serving of mashed potatoes, surrounded by green peas and broccoli, topped with deep-fried Enoki mushrooms. He enjoyed the generous portion of the greens or it would have been a rather meaty dish. The lovely fresh mint pesto accentuated the flavours in this dish making it a winner as well. I opted for Hokkaido scallop risotto. The bright yellow saffron-infused colour of the al dente rice was flavoured with good stock, cream and Parmesan cheese. It was topped with caviar, microgreens and diced crispy bacon. The pan-fried scallops were tender, sweet and simply delicious. I enjoyed the risotto immensely! The lobster marinara as a real showstopper. The uncomplicated pasta was flavoured with traditional tomato concasse and cheese, served with broccoli. This was a deceptively simply but satisfying main course that should be top on your list of must-try items at the Book Sandwich Café. The tender grilled French cut lamb rack was equally impressive. It was served with vine cherry tomatoes, asparagus, baby carrots, Portobello mushrooms and mashed potatoes. If you love lamb, you will absolutely enjoy this offering. Tiger prawns Aglio Olio was another satisfying dish. The spaghetti was firm to the bite and flavoured with crispy minced bacon, roasted garlic, chilli flakes and sautéed mushrooms. It was topped with Parmesan cheese and Ebiko (shrimp roe). We also ordered both the grilled fish items on the menu – salmon and barramundi. The 200g grilled salmon fillet was served with mashed potatoes and with mixed greens on the side. For the grilled barramundi, roasted asparagus and potatoes accompanied the dish. It was an ideal venue for a small class reunion – the food was good, the friendly staff attentive and the festive-looking deco charming. It provided us a conducive environment to feast on scrumptious delights, reminisce about our schooling days while enjoying each other's company. How quickly time flies and it was indeed wonderful to be able to come together to celebrate life and good friendships.More
The food was good, and the desserts were not bad. Lamb shank was a little hard. Otherwise the ambiance was very cozy and delightful with the Christmas tree and decorations. The service could improve especially since it is quite an expensive restaurant.
Thank you very much guys! good service, friendly staff, all food are very nice...delicious I love it 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Delicious foods and cozy place. Love the the salted egg spagetti.💕💕 Recommended to everyone.. 👍👍
Its good located ...food was good big portion 2 staff men was give us a good service everytime they check our table if good or not (Kiru and i dont ask his name ) probably will recommend this to our friends and relatives.
I would highly recommend this restaurant, my wife and I came for our firs wedding anniversary and we weren’t disappointed. Staff are very friendly and attentive, and the food was all perfectly cooked, we opted for the scallops and ceaser salad to start, very generous...portions, and executed perfectly, next we had the prawns and black linguini and the 5 spiced duck, again excellent. The chocolate and walnut brownie was good, but more like a sponge cake, I think this can be improved upon.More
The Book had been recommended to us by a friend who had visited recently. Quite a large restaurant and although probably about half full was quite noisy. The menu is quite varied with some interesting items. Two of us had soft shell crab burger, another...2 had lobster sandwich and others, fish and soup. Presentation was excellent and my soft shell crab burger was great. Prices vary quite a lot according to the dish so your meal could also vary from reasonable to quite expensive. Staff were efficient and friendly. Definitely somewhere we’d return toMore
Duck chop is a show of flavours! Ideal place, clean, quiet, nice music! Fantastic for who love sugar
Nice place with great designs.. Menu is decent with a must try lobster menu.. Would defitnetly go back there..
Pricing abit expensive but service is good ! Food quality and taste still okay. Portion abit little. Can have a try..
Have visited this place a couple of times and so happy to find that the service and food have remained consistently good. This is something commendable, as many times restaurants in Penang simply are unable to keep up their standards overtime. The ambiance in this...new location is not as hip as before as the many paintings covering the stretch of the walls are gone. Quality and quantity of food gives value for money.More
