We tour The Blue Mansion, very spectacular, slightly downside is the warm and humid weather. After one and a half hour of tour, we had lunch at Indigo Restaurant. It has a very colonial setting, keeping its charm. Serving staff is quite attentive, food is...very good, with starter, main course, dessert and one of the nicest coffee we have tasted in Penang. This place was a real disappointment. We had reserved a table for the evening and after some time were served some bread and provided with the menu. Nobody was seen afterwards for a long time, staff were busy discussing or debating near the entrance. We...called one of the waitors in order to ask for a drink. "The bar is closed" was the answer. OK, we'll have some white wine to start with instead, and ordered an Australian Sauvignon blanc. "I'll have to ask my manager", was the answer this time. Again after some time, the waitor came back with a bottle of sweet Gewürztraminer, saying this was the only white wine they had. We gave up and left, and, in a restaurant nearby met two couples who had had a similar experience and were also looking for an alternative. We do wonder how the positive reviews about this restaurant came to pass.More

One of my favorite restaurants in Penang to bring my family and friends to. Not only is the atmosphere in the blue mansion unique and historic, but the food is delicious too. There have been a few occasions where service has been inconsistent, but I...can see that they are rebuilding their team after the pandemic so it’s understandable.More

Well that was bad. Kitchen did a pretty good job. 6 out of 10. Front of the house: dirty table cloth, cocktails should arrive before starters, someone should fill your water glass more than once, someone should ask if you would like some wine, someone...should ask how your meal is, someone should clear you plates, same goes for that empty cocktail glass. We thought this would be a special meal - not. We left before dessert was offered. Management may blame a table of 20 but we had to make a reservation and Indigo Blue called to confirm our reservation. Once we left, we went across the street were we met 2 other tables who were at Indigo Blue and had also left. Note to wait staff: never go back to the kitchen with empty hands. Like I said, 'not sure who gives the good reviews'. Save your money for elsewhere.More

We were staying at the Blue Mansion as guests and decided to treat ourselves to the Tasting Menu. For someone coming from abroad, the tasting menu price is quite reasonable (compared to similar restaurants in Europe) but it's quite expensive when compared to 'normal' restaurants...in George Town. The decor and atmosphere is quite dull, we were expecting much more from a fine dining establishment. The staff were helpful and courteous and I can't fault their enthusiasm to be helpful but again, they were the same staff that served us at breakfast in the hotel. Again, we expected different in a fine dining restaurant. The food itself was nice. Just nice, not as good as how the menu read but it did make a nice change after having spent the previous 10 days eating 'local' food. Two of us had the meat & fish tasting menu and two had the vegetarian. The meat and fish menu was varied and interesting, the wagyu beef a memorable dish. The other courses have already faded in my memory. The vegetarian menu was boring and lazy in my opinion, not worth the money they charged for it. The wine menu is limited and overpriced and there was no sommelier to give advice, just the two waiters who also work the breakfast shift. All in all, not worth what we paid for the experience.More

Overpriced meal with substandard services Having been to Gen, Kabaya , I was looking for to another fine dining experience in penang. It turned out so bad. Had a six courses tasting menu. No wine pairing available so just ordered a glass of white. Food...is very average. Nothing spectacular. Service is very average. Not even as good as the curry house I went last night. Honestly one of the worst experience meal experiences I had ever had. Not worth the money and will not recommend to anyone. Blue Mansion is beautiful but the restaurant decor is very average.More

Together with my wife we are frequent travelers and gourmets when it comes to culinary taste. Last night we had a fabulous meal at Indigo, Cheng Fatt Tze's fine dining venue in the heart of Georgetown. The atmosphere is truly grand and international, as are...the guests. Indigo definitely lives up to the hype and I would 10/10 recommend it to anyone who visits Georgetown. The menu offers a creative fusion of Eastern and Western flavors served in an airy, historic environment. The food tastes just as great as the Blue Mansion...looks. Loved that the tasting menu accommodates vegetarians and pescatarians and every course from the appetizer to the dessert was “heaven in your mouth” perfection. Great wine selection and pairing recs. I went for a late lunch and there was a fun mix of families, couples and solo travelers creating a very comfortable, relaxing vibe.More

Excellent Fine dining in typical Peranakan old mansion which was used as a film set for such great movies like Crazy Rich Asian.
