This place blew our minds - in a very positive sense. The food is incredibly delicate and tasty and served with an aesthetic touch like it was the finest gourmet - all at or below average prices for this type of restaurant. We payed 150 RM for appetizers, two main courses and two deserts + cocktails! The place is small and isolated which makes you feel that you have left the city. The staff is very polite and friendly, with personal recommendations and a very good understanding of the food they serve. We were served by Vince and Ronald, which was a pleasure! Highly recommend it and we intend to come back!

Came here for lunch in February and had their 4-course meal consisting of an appetiser, soup (i.e. tom yam), main course (nasi dagang) and dessert. The restaurant is located inside the Fort Cornwallis grounds and is accessible via its main entrance (beside the light house). You will need to pay the entrance fee to the Fort itself, but this fee is claimable at the restaurant. Probably the biggest drawback is the lack of parking spaces, but other than that it's a nice and quiet place to enjoy a fine-dining experience for local cuisine.

Located inside the Fort Cornwallis, Kota offers a unique opportunity to learn a part of Penang’s history, then follow up with their east meet west culinary. You must try their creme brulee which come as a 3-pieces creme brulee; original, gula melaka-based, and pandan-based. And a glass of Sunrise to quench your thirst...

I had lunch at Kota recently and it was an experience that would never be repeated. First of all, you have to go through Fort Cornwallis where the entry charge is RM10 per person for locals, foreigners pay more. The charges can be off set against the food bill. First of all, only 1 table was occupied by a family of foreigners. Service was prompt as the restaurant was almost empty but it was without a smile and when asked for more information regrading the food, the server was not sure. The menu was also very limited. We knew it was fusion food so it will be somewhat different but the food was more of a confusion. The Cendol, which came blended in a bottle tasted kilometres away from its name sake, and the coconut milk/santan used came from either a can or packet, with a few hard pieces of red beans and it was thick and gritty. We couldn't finish it even though it cost RM16. It had an unpleasant taste with a strong hint of rancidity. The Hokkien Mee, RM 25, was actually Italian pasta with a stingy serving of gravy that was not enough to mix the "noodles" in. It had a couple of prawns which was fresh but that was its only saving grace. It tasted faintly like hokkien mee, just only a hint of it. The laksa was an interesting dish with a small bowl of normal laksa sauce (but with no ingredients) served at the side and a few pieces of cucumber, lettuce leaves, onion slices, a tiny amount of prawn paste and 2 small rolls of what looked like sticky rice "noodles," more like rolled pancakes on a bigger plate. I wouldn't eat that again. The Poh Piah Acar Awak, RM 15, was overwhelmingly sour and spicy and you can stand to eat only a couple of rolls. No water was served but you can buy some from their exorbitantly priced mineral water. The total bill came to RM89.10 but was deducted RM20 (the entry price). The ambience was sterile and it was like eating in a canteen. Prices must match quality, fusion must be clever and creative but sadly these two factors are not present at all. Not recommended for locals, it's food for tourists.

Hi Dear valued customer, Thank you for taking time to reviews your dining experience with us. We are extremely sorry to hear about this. This is definitely not the quality of food and service our customers have come to expect from us. We will improve ourselves to serve you better in other opportunity. We are launching new menu shortly, we hope that you could give us one more chance to serve you again. Besides, Fort management do not collect any entrance fee for visit Fort Cornwallis in the moment. Hope to see you next time. Sincerely apologize with our imperfection. Best Regards, Kota Dine & Coffee

We stopped by for coffees while touring the fort. For a place that has "coffee" in the restaurant name, they only offer two types of coffee. The waiter seemed surprised and confused when I asked for milk/cream with my coffee and said that was not possible. They also didn't have the one food item that we wanted to order. Disappointing.

We were on a 12 day trip to Malaysia and pretty much had every kind of cuisine that Malaysia had to offer. Our experience at the Kota wad by far the best. The restaurant is located inside one of the top tourist attractions of the city and the food is simply awesome. They have such an innovative twist to the local Nyonya cuisine and every dish has such a brilliant and distinct taste.

Worst location ever. What a poor service! The only cold beverages available were still water in a plastic bottle and Sprite. Recommended by Guide Michelin??? Must be a mistake!

I popped into this cafe after a round of the tourist attraction. Its cool interior was a stark contrast to the heat outside. Since I was there just for a drink, I browsed through the menu, only focusing on the beverages. I did notice a lot of thought was put in the way the dishes were created and presented, looking at the description of each dish and its accompanying photo. The theme was fusion, and if not for the fact I was not up to eating then, I would have ventured to try a few dishes. My beverage was an ice-blended Cendol drink. It was full of flavour, and I felt I was literally eating the dessert Penang is famous for. The coconut milk brought out the best in the beverage and I loved it. What a thirst quencher! The service was prompt and the wait staff, warm and friendly. Well done!

Me and my wife had our last dinner in Penang, saw the good reviews here and decided to go. Sadly we were disappointed. The starters were good and a little spicy, the fish -stake a little odd though. Our main courses were small and bland, the chili crab buns had absolutely no chili (or any flavour whatsoever) and inside was one lettuce, one deep fried shrimp and some mayonnaise, on the side a few curly fries. Also we felt like we weren't welcomed as there were 3 tables with big families and the waiters took pictures of them etc and none bothered to even tell us about the menu. As we finally asked for our check the waiter looked closely next to me as I counted my money. No one thanked or said goodbyes as we left. We felt treated as unwanted customers but with no reason we could think of. Not worth your money, there are many excellent restaurants in Georgetown to go to instead.

Hi Dear valued customer, Thank you for taking time to reviews your dining experience. First of all, we apologize with our imperfection as lack of staff at the peak hour. And we do apologize for the poor service that provided to you. We will definitely improve ourselves and hope you could give us one more chance to serve you better. Besides, our dish that you mentioned "Chili Crab Mantou". The chili was inside the mayonnaise and it's a deep fried soft shell crab inside. We apologize that our staff didn't clarify the dishes with you. Thank you once again for writing us this and we look forward to welcoming you back again for another opulent stay to try out our dishes. We believe that you will satisfy with our dishes in your next visit.

A restaurant located inside a UNESCO site. You will have to pay for an entrance fee to enter the site before getting to the restaurant. Worry not. The entrance fee will be offset when your bill at the restaurant is above a certain amount. We ordered Chilli Crab Mantou, Hokkien and Creme Brulee. The Hokkien is one to die for. It reminded us of the lobster soup we had in Iceland. It's rich and flavourful. For dessert, we had creme brulee. We were surprised that it came in 3 small bowls - pandan, glutinous rice and gula melaka. We preferred the pandan and gula melaka.
