This restaurant is out of Kota Kinabalu. Its in Tuaran. If you stay nearby resorts, then this restaurant is worth it. Seeing the wal in customers and reserved tables it's true what I was told the seafood is cheaper than in KK and still fresh....Some dishes we bought a bit off but otherwise this is a recommended restaurant if you staying in Tuaran.More
Typical seafood restaurant in SE asia, lots of tanks with fresh seafood, bare floor, lots of tables in a big warehouse type room, no delicate eating habits - your hands will get messy. Didn't dare try the toilets. Only recommendation you will get for ouitside...eating from rasa ria. Full of locals when we were there, some Mandarin and English spoken. In response to some reviews for me being out of stock can be a good sign - you stock what you can get. Also Gayang may not be halal but it's a Muslim nation so not everywhere has alcohol. And yes when your food is ready it gets delivered then and there, plain rice will always come when you ask for it (maybe you have to ask more than once). Opposite dish experience to Abadi (see my other review), steamed prawns were not so good (well averageish), coral grouper (steamed) was excellent. Salted egg octopus good. Nice dish of fried oyster mushrooms - quite Cantonese in style. Fresh orange juice better than Abadi. Bring mozzie spray. MYR 200 for the meal for three. Tiger prawns looked huge so maybe should have tried them instead. Worth the trip - probably on average you will get better food than Abadi. Abadi is when you want to say you have seen a really local place.More
Very touristy, half off the menu out off stock. Is like a Cantine, not recommended. Poor drinking service only cans, no beer no wine. Never again for us.the food comes step by step on the table but when later plates and folk and spoon arrived,...the food was cold already 😰More
It’s rustic, but so what. The food is great and reasonably priced and is no more than 10 mins by cab from Rasa Ria
Have to wait at least 45 min after food is ordered. It's a very touristy place with food served cold.
Service was great. It's my second time here. Brought my family to this restaurant and they love it. The food's amazing. Have you ever try fried eels? They actually taste pretty good honestly. Soft and tender. You'll never know until you try it yourself. Recommended.
We loved it!! Fresh seafood cooked perfectly. Amazing seafood range with HUGE oysters, yummy chilli crab etc. Choose your seafood and the waitress will help advise the best ways to cook it. The price is really reasonable; a kilo of mud crab was less than...$11 Australian. We had a feast!More
We ate here a few night ago with some friends from the KK area. About an hours drive from KK so definitely not within cab distance. The sea food here is fresh daily. We had soup, a few prawn dishes and some steamed fresh fish...and veggies. Very popular with the locals wanting the best seafood. The service is not 5 star and you have to order at the counter but oh when the food arrives the wait is well worth it. The large prawns were cooked to perfection. Be warned they come with the shells and heads still on so some work is neessary to get to the tender succulent meats inside. The fish was cooked to perfection and the veggies had lots of flavor. One of the better meals we have had in the KK area in a long time.More
We are here the night after visiting the eco farm restaurant. The setting is not quite as modern but the food and service once we worked out how things happen was great. Probably our best meal so far - prawns, squid & fish washed down...with beer for less than £10 per head - quite stunningMore
Went for dinner here & waited more than an hour for our food ... kids were hungry n the staff didn’t care at all. Would not recommend this place at all! They know they are popular n will get the people coming to their restaurant...n hence do not care at all. Best part when our food did turn up was the wrong order too!! No way I would go back there! I would recommend the Gayang FRIENDLY Seafood restaurant which is round the corner from this place!!More
Had a great dining experience at gayang seafood KK. Of course the food is good too with reasonable price.
Nice and with variety choices of seafood. The price is reasonable. It’s better to go in group so can have a try on different seafood.
Introduced to the place by local friend few year back, I re-visited the restaurant and it gets even better. Seafood is fresh, variety is good, price is reasonable. It may get busy at dinner time so better to go early (probably before 7pm). The fresh...tiger prawns are the best!More
6 of us for dinner....thankfully one spoke fluet Malay, which made ordering SO much easier. Non locals could easily over order, ending up with too much food and a hefty bill (as we encountered at Welcome Seafood a few years ago..never again!!). We ate like...kings, and the food was fantastic. Chilli Crab, and Garlic Bugs were the standouts, although the butter praws, cockles and the green vegie were very good. 6 people...$180AUD total including beers and a desert. Great Value. Would go back again....great for a group as the variety toeach improves.More
