I went to De Fa Chang while on business trip as it was recommended to me for being on of Xi'an's best local restaurant. Well it's more a tourists destination and cleanliness isn't very good. The service personnel didn't speak English and only tried to recommended expensive dishes. No one came back to check if everything was ok or not.... More

Our Hotel recommended this restaurant between the drum and bell tower. The first floor is self service. The second floor offers a banquet dinner. The food was not really special but the presentation and the service were very good. Best dish was the double boiled chicken and mushroom soup.

Considered one of the old time restaurants famous for the dim sum, we were disappointed. The dumplings did not come out the way presented in the samples. Don't let your tour guide talk you into going there. There are better restaurants in the Xi'an, just check TripAdvisor.

We came here with their tour guide and sampled many different types of dumplings. It was really fun to try at all and we enjoyed most of it. It's really hard to come here if you are not with a Chinese speaking person. We had a great lunch and tried some new Chinese food. I would recommend the experience to... More

With a (small) view of the Bell Tower, it's a pity this restaurant looks more like a fast food canteen to me. We especially went there for dumplings, and ordered a set (32RMB) which contained funny colored dumplings. Without trying dumplings in other places in Xi'an, I think the food was decent and not "horrid" as mentioned in another review.

We read about this place in the lonely planet guide and then read reviews here on tripadvisor and thought we were in for a treat. Lonely Planet said this restaurant has been around for 100 years and I can verify that because that's about how old the dumplings we ordered tasted. We had 3 different kinds and all were terrible.... Thanks to another reviewer we found it easily between the drum and bell tower just up the stairs from Starbucks. We ordered from the pictures as there was no English. Under 200¥ for our family of 7. I recommend the fried dumplings that are purchased at a separate counter in the dining room - the kids loved them. All in... More

We had a small group dinner here - they brought many types of dumplings and included a good variety of vegetarian ones. This may not be the best restaurant in town but we all liked it a lot. Service was very good and the food excellent.

We tried this place on the recommendation of friends. It's a good value for money dumpling place and you will never be able to finish all the food in front of you. However, it isn't the best dumpling place in the world and the menu is in Chinese so unless you have help, you will have to go with faith.... More

My husband and I came in December when it was relatively empty. It took us two tries to find this restaurant because the map on the tripadvisor app is incorrect. The restaurant is actually located in between the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower. First, go down the escalator. Then, just past the Starbucks, go up some stairs and it... More
