Located in a small side street, cool modern place. There are plants and books which give a relaxing feel. Staff is friendly and some speak English. Food: there are some lunch menus, I had the chicken curry with rice - very good, spicy and tasty! Good choice of cakes. Conclusion: cool place for lunch or coffee and cake In a... More

Come here for the nice atmosphere and the lovely cakes and tarts from the bakery next door. Unlike other cafes in Kyoto you get the feeling that it is ok here to sit and read a book while drinking a coffee.

We visited this calm and warm cafe following hours of snowy windy visit to the plum blossom. Luckilyy we had a window side table where we watch the light came down with our warm chocolate and chia latte. The high ceiling stored ample energy to refresh our mind and that one hour stage was just zen and relaxed. Its adjacent... More

Came here on a weekday with hubby. Bought their bread from next door. Their bread are French style all made with 100% organic wheat. We got the rye roll with fig, chocolate and macadamia nuts, rye roll with raisin and roasted walnuts, custard cream bun and rye roll with cream cheese and nuts. They are very flavoursome with good bites... More

The library and all the greenery let you feel home in this comfy place with the best coffee. I was here for a couple of hours, working on a story, and felt really inspired by the people, the food and the setting. Afterwards I discovered that my local friends also love this place.

I usually come here for their bakery products. Sometimes I will buy the bread and then eating in with a coffee, or have their bakery takeway to enjoy my lunch in the garden of Kyoto Imperial Palace, which is a few minutes bike ride from the cafe. I have a few favorite ones like red bean paste + butter baguette,... More

Great coffee but on the expensive side. Best coffee in Kyoto by far. Cakes looked great too but going for dinner so resisted!

Coffee was great and the BLAT was pretty delicious also. Only downside was it had a distinct ash taste due to the guy next to me smoking. If you don't mind involving yourself in a nicotine compression session, than this place is actually great!

We visited this place a couple of times during our week in Kyoto. We loved the coffee but also the wide food menu. Great and relaxing place for a drink as well! It looks amazing inside, really inspiring for home decor :)

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
