In our 2 week visit to Japan we are at 7 Michelin starred restaurants. This was the most expensive and disappointing. Some dishes were very good. Some were barely edible and we enjoy varied food. We are at a Michelin one star the night before, Jiki Miyazawa, which was much better for half the price (not that price is an... More

The food here is exquisite. The location is intimate. BYOM- bring your own music as this is a quiet kaiseki experience. The food is fantastic. The service is great.

We dined as a group of 4 and advised the restaurant in advance that one of us was gluten free, and one didn't eat meat. The restaurant prepared special menus (including bespoke printed menus) for those two diners. Our set menu dinner consisted of 11 courses, including sashimi, soups, etc. All the food was top class. The service was very... More

We used to be in restaurants with Michelin stars. This restaurant does not compare to them in any way. The food was routine-nothing special.

A group of 4 of us was fortunate to dine here for lunch to celebrate my friend's birthday whilst visiting Kyoto. We made the reservation 6 months in advance. We booked the private tatami room, the food and service were impeccable. Being April, menu ingredients were based on the season, SPRING - like tile-fish, bamboo shoot, cherry leaf, egg-bearing octopus... More

We chose Kikunoi to have our final meal on our trip through Japan and what a memorable dining experience it was. You dine in a private room and partake of numerous courses of beautifully and artfully prepared dishes. This is not a meal or experience for the unadventurous diner as the food is pretty sophisticated. The only dish that I... More

Everything about this meal was exquisite. The ingredients, presentation, plates, ambiance, just everything. You dine in your own private dining room on tatami mats, with a big window that looks into a beautiful bonsai garden. We were amazed at how delicious yet simple, earthy and natural everything tasted. What an experience. Perfect place for that memorable, romantic, highlight-of-the-trip meal.

No doubts, one of the best restaurants in my life. Five full stars for the location and for the food. And 6 stars (or more) for the service, really unbelievable. Unmissable restaurant.

I did not know anything about this restaurant when the concierge booked it, other than it was supposed to be good. What an incredible surprise! We ate at the "counter", overlooking the garden. The meal was one of the best I've ever had, despite being "only" a lunch. If you can get a reservation here, count your lucky stars, you... More
