We had a lovely dinner at Nanzan last night. A friend of ours recommended the restaurant and we are glad they did because it is a very good quality meat for a very decent price. It was our first time in a yakiniku restaurant so we were a bit lost at first, and the staff was not speaking English very well. But then one of the waiter, Kōhei, came and spoke French to us. It resulted that he had been trained as a butcher in Paris a few years back and his French is quite good. He has been so kind and helpful to us, explaining how to grill the meat and recommended a plum wine. He even brought a pair of scissors for us to cut the chunks our daughter could not eat easily. Finally, because we will be staying in Kyoto for a couple of months, he told us they also sell meat, charcuterie and wine in their shop, so we might pay them a visit.
Compared to other restaurants that serve yakiniku in Kyoto that I have been looking at, the price is extremely reasonable (maybe it is the atmosphere and area as well, as it is off centred and very relaxed). The set of 180g of beef, rice, soup and a salad for 4400 yen is great. We were very full but enjoyed every bite.

Had dinner at Nanzan last night and it was incredible!!! Theres a separate halal menu which has various types of halal wagyu beef on it. I went for the 200g steak and a side of assorted vegetables. You grill the beef and vege at your table yourself so you can cook the meat how you like it, but rare is best. It was succulent, juicy, buttery, melted in your mouth. Heaven on a plate. So so glad I chose Nanzan and got to have a proper wagyu steak. Not cheap but worth every yen because it's so delicious. Yuzu juice is also delicious so definitely worth a try! Staff speak very little english but theres an english menu.

This was a great lunch. We tried 3 different cuts of beef and enjoyed all of them . My daughter had the pizza with squid which she loved. The vegetables are quite difficult to grill but in fact they were unnecessary because the beef alone is so yummy . The staff are friendly and helpful and it was a wonderful afternoon . Considering the quality of the beef we definitely felt that this was worth every bit spent.

I live nearby this place and I often eat there, the food is AMAZING! You need to get ready to expend about 2500〜3500円 for the lunch menu, however, the sizes are really good and the quality is really really good! They offer Japanese Wagyu and Kyotankuro (Kyoto beef or Kyoto's own Cattle breed.) You can then order side dishes like Korean Kimchi and Korean Bibimpab (really good).
In general a really cozy and nice place, the staff is super friendly and some speak English and French, HALAL Menu available for Muslims.
Hope you guys can eat there soon! :)

The choice of this for dinner was simply walking distance and looked quite good.
Thursday night at 7:30 was not busy so walking in we had no trouble getting a table and meant the venue was quite.
Staff were friendly and they had an English menu which made live easier of those of us with little to Japanese.
Letting my 11-year old loose, he chose the cheapest, 4 types of beef option.
All of the cuts were lovely, the vegetable fresh and all well presented.
The only thing not popular was the seaweed soup - which was not a big deal as there was more than enough in the rest of the meal.

Kyoto has so many Korean style Yakiniku restaurant, but you may not go other place if you go to the restaurant. Their meat is so fresh and tasty because they purchased and stored whole meat in their special storage which locates under the restaurant.
Individual room also available so the place is also good for power meeting or family even though you have a baby. Their Korean style cold noodle also very suite for hot summer in Kyoto. Parking is available. Please enjoy yummy juicy meats.

I came with a Muslim friend. Don't really remember which set I ordered, but the meats were extremely delicious - I couldn't bear to finish it because each bite was so, so good. However, I gave 4 stars because in my opinion, it was a very small serving and was still hungry even after eating everything (including all the vegetables). Prices wise, I spent almost $100 for my portion of food, which is understandable for wagyu beef.

One of the best, if not the best, dinner we had in Japan.
We had a lovely floor type seating and the service was great, they explained how to use the grill and fat. The place had a perfect feel about it.
We had numerous portions of the wagyu and also tried some of the chicken sausages. The wagyu beef was melt in your mouth. Awesome. Simply awesome. Had to be careful not to overcook, max 1 mins on each side.
The kids liked it too - so much that I had to order again ! Expensive exercise when in Japan having specialised halal wagyu, but the kids were loving it.
Would fully recommend it, a bit of trek as it is in north of Kyoto but very easy to get here on the subway (then 5 mins walk) and on way back we got a taxi home.
Perfect.

We were craving some decent Halal meat in Japan during our 2 week stay and were told about this place near Notre Dame University in Kyoto. Boy, was it worth the wait!
Excellent service, presentation and most importantly: the taste of the meat was exquisite and sublime. Very good value for money (though it is pricey!) and decent portion sizes. The meat is well certified and they even have a little booklet which explains how their cattle are rearered and what makes the meat so special. It really has to be tried to be believed.
Would recommend in an instant.
The only downside is that no meat will ever taste the same, until I've had another wagyu steak!

Very happy to indulge in wagyu here. We ordered a lot of wagyu since the place offers halal meat. There was a bit of a wait when we got there. We got a table eventually after 30mins of waiting. Good value for money and service was excellent. Would go there again.

We had been in Japan a almost a week and we were mostly having veggies or seafood as it is still difficult or expensive to get halal food around. This place is not exactly near attractions but about 10 to 15 minutes walk straight down from a nearby subway station. The price is somewhat comparable to a hotel meal in Singapore but the quality and quantity was worth, especially since even in Singapore it is hard to find something of the same quality. The beef was so fresh and delicious. The staff were attentive to our needs. The kept showing us the halal cert to ensure us and also because we couldn't speak Japanese very well they always called on the staff who could speak English best to cater to us. It seems the place does not have many tourists, at least at the time we went.

Northern Kyoto
Hot springs and historic temples characterize the leafy landscapes of Northern Kyoto. Acres of tranquil residential streets are interrupted by some of Kyoto's most gorgeous architectural gems, including the majestic Golden Pavilion of Kinkakuji, the serene artistry of the Ryoanji Temple rock gardens, and the bold red paint across the structures of Enryakuji Temple. Once a religious core of the city, the district now boasts some of its most remote and peaceful hot springs, as well as a few of its best family-run mom-and-pop restaurants. A blend of extremely local at its outskirts, and highly peopled at its tourist centers, Northern Kyoto nonetheless retains a halcyon air in harmony with nature.
