Really great experience. Beef better than any tasted in the UK, staff very friendly with fantastic English. Gluten free options clearly marked on menu. Highly recommend.

After seeing this on trip advisor, I knew I had to try it, just to experience the Samurai theme. We were eagerly welcomed as a walk-in just after opening, and took our seat by the rear window outside of which was a shishi-odori. We ordered the recommended Murasawa Sirloin Steak course and were treated to a magnificent gastronomical journey. The... More

I took the advice from others here at Trip Advisor that this was not to be missed and I was not disappointed! Visited by myself on a solo trip on a Friday night and saw the Samurai performance. The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful. I did try the steak meal that is advertised as the best beef... More

Food was good, service was even better. Cool restaurant down an alley. We didn't have reservations, but they were able to fit us in. Amazing tiramisu. Great saki recommendations. Great dinner overall. Not unreasonable in menu prices. We would return!

We saw reviews and as we were in the area tried this place on spec, my partner is almost vegetarian and struggles with a lot of Japanese food, but not here. We were greeted at the door and found a table, the staff spoke excellent English and were lovely. The starters of creamed cheese and the Samurai salad sublime. The... More

Shishin is hands down my favorite restaurant in Japan for the food and the service. I've went back to the restaurant several times to sample the menu and have always been happy with the results. I tried mostly items from the Samurai Food list and would recommend the oumi beef and the Murosawa beef set course as my favorites. I've... More

I dont understand the keen interest for this place. There is nothing local nor peculiar there as it is full of tourists looking for a "real experience" (of what?). Good service. Nice setting. But fair food (although i found a stone in my salad), and the most western food i've eaten in Japan (although dishes sound japanese there's really nothing... More

What a cool place! I've lived in Japan for a long time but for me, this was my first experience of the samurai lifestyle. The food was amazing and delicious. But the atmosphere is why I would return and recommend this restaurant to you. The owner and his carefully chosen staff are so welcoming and so knowledgeable you'll love it.... More

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
