We really enjoyed our food at Kinkhao (I think this is the correct spelling? Not sure?). Anyway, it is a second floor walk-up and casual. We had 4 adults and 2 kids (7 & 5 years old). They handled us nicely. The Thai food was really good and authentic (according to the other couple that has been to Thailand 8+... More

This restaurant doesn't look like much from the street but inside it is lovely, and the service is warm and friendly. They speak just enough English to help navigate dietary restrictions, and the food was utterly delicious.

Felt like a break from the Japanese kitchen. So why not Thai/Lao? The restaurant is on the 2nd floor with a beautiful view over the river flowing by. The interior of the restaurant has a local Thai feel over it. Comfy! You can sit either on the floor or on chairs. Which ever your legs and back are in the... More

Excellent Thai food, friendly staff, and nice atmosphere. I was particularly appreciative that the cooks made some adaptations for my vegetarian diet. Everything was delicious! Nice way to end a long day of sightseeing.

The food was good, had the green curry chicken and basil chicken. Both were around 1000 yen each, and a small bowl of rice was 300 yen. The portion sizes were very small which was very disappointing. It's located on 2 new floor, diagonally opposite the McDonalds at that junction. Open till 10:30, with last food order at 10 pm.... More

I lived in Thailand for 10 years and my lovely wife is from Chiang Mai. The quality and authenticity of food at Kin Khao are seldom found outside of Thailand. Items like Sai aua (Chiang Mai Sausage) can be hard to find outside Chiang Mai let alone Thailand. Great view. Great food. We had an outstanding meal.

The location and doc oration are good. but more focus should be made to the details of the good and the portion should be made a bit larger considering the price. Tom yum goong is nice. Som tum (papaya salad) is too sour (way more too sour that what you find in Laos or Thailan) and kiap mou (crispy pork... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
