Very nice sushi restaurant in the basement opposite the Daimaru store. English menus available, service was fast and friendly and when I asked for some extra pickled ginger the waitress brought a whole cup of it! There was no available space in the counter so we were seated on a table. Crowd was mixed, locals and tourists. A bit on... More

We've been lucky to be among the first people in the qeue when they opened for dinner at 5 pm, so we were seatted at the sushi bar. Great experience to see how your sashimi is made and served to you by the japanese chef. Very good fish quality, and really tasty. Totally recommend the place.

This was fine, but by far the most average sushi we ate on our trip, and not a great atmosphere. Also did not seem like a very good value. Closed up earlier than noted in guides as well (by 9pm, Not 10). Would have liked to find someplace more interesting.

Came here a few days ago. Not sure how this restaurant made it on Trip Advisor. The food was okay. Sushi was fresh but it was nothing special. The service was below par. Felt like I was in an all you can eat sushi restaurant except I didn't get all you can eat and I paid nearly 5x more. There... More

This is part of the big Sushi sei chain. It is located in the upscale shopping area of Kyoto in the basement of Daimaru department store. The sushi is pretty good but nothing special. Service is a bit erratic. I enjoyed Kappasushi much better. Not sure I will go back

Lonely Planet recommended this place. We weren't impressed. The sushi selection in the mixed plate (moriawase) was subpar. They seated and then they disappeared.

Sushis are really good but unfortunately we felt very unwelcome. Indeed, it looks like the chefs don't like foreigners and acted really rudely during all the diner: it kind of ruined our diner even if the food was really good. He didn't act the same way with Japanese people: to avoid if you're a tourist!

Even though I'm not a big fan of Asiatic food in general this definitely has been suiting my taste. The restaurant is cosy and what I like in general in Japan places is that everyone is so helpful and focused on making your experience to be the best and water is free of charge.

Most sushi places in Japan will offer you sushi that far exceeds what we get in the U.S in terms of quality and freshness. This place is on Takakura dori just adjacent to the Daimaru department store and also is known as Tsukiji Sushisei. There is an English menu, but you may want to know the Japanese words for the... I visited this restaurant with my family for lunch. The sushi was good BUT not awesome. Classic dishes with no imagination. And i have no problem with this indeed. But for the price paid both the restaurant and atmosphere were average. Conclusion: average. Note that there is lack of sushi places in the area so in a way you will... More
