This is honestly the best beef we have EVER tasted! We chose this restaurant as it was close to our hotel and wanted to try some good quality beef. After reading the reviews we decided this restaurant should be okay, we did not realise that this would be our best meal in Japan. When you enter, you take off your... More

Literally, I walked away with little to say because the meat just took my thoughts and words away. This outstanding restaurant does it right! You take your shoes off at the start, then head upstairs to a private booth complete with a privacy screen. We enjoyed multiple plates including a pork sampler, beef sampler, more beef, some veggies, and two... More

We had no idea what we were getting into, but it turned out yummy! We found Japanese Scotch, and wagyu beef that would melt in your mouth! They deliver the beef and veggies, whatever you order, raw and you place it directly on the grill cooking it. yourself. You have your own private BBQ when they pull down the shade... More

Really good atmosphere and stupidly good meat. When you arrived you take off your shoes and follow the waiter/waitress to your table or booth. After looking at your menu you have a button that calls the waiters to your table. Food came quick. Meat was really good quality. They also make a great Highball!

Good quality beef with great atmosphere. No nonsense, just good food at a reasonable price. Try the menu in japanese as well: choose the best plate in the middle of the menu.

I love yakiniku and ate at three of this type of restaurant during my visit to Kyoto and Gyuurakutei was by far the best. The assortment and quality of meat was exceptional and the atmosphere was very nice - private booths that are great for couples or small groups. The first time I went there they were full with reservations... More

Went by for a late night snack that turned into a full on steak dinner and no regrets at all. World class steak at a very reasonable price and the spinach was excellent as well. Wish it wasn't so late (2230) or I would have had more. Private rooms with a service buzzer they arrive within seconds and serve within... More

We decided to eat steak and walked in this restaurant without knowing anything about it. Atmosphere was amazing from the door, where you should take off your shoes and they direct you to your table. You have 2 options: normal table Japanese style siting on the floor. All tables are private, like a booth covered with curtain. You don't have... More

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
