Love this location on Bangkung in Bangsar. Definitely more genteel, cozy and convivial. A last minute reservation, an early slot and a relaxed comfortable table on the terrace. An attentive service team.
We picked their special from the chalkboard. It was served less than 20...minutes after we placed the order so we guessed that the sizeable (1.6kg) steak had been “sous-vided” (nothing wrong with that but to a purist, it is a bit of a cop-out) prior to a quick fiery finish on an open grill just to caramelise and char the fatty surface. The medium rare done-ness requested was therefore delivered very competently and evenly right through the whole slab. The crusty build-up on the bone and tips was deliciously smoky.
Thankfully, the seasoning was straight forward and kept simple so as not to mask the natural umami-ness of the prime cut. The first bite was excellent. So was the jus. A unique feature to the meal is that they will carve out the fatty part of the steak, mince it up and render that to fry up a delicious serving of char kwey tiao. Really delicious Forty Licks ice cream in Guinness, Hoegarden, Rum & Raisin, Bailey’s finished the meal perfectly. Looking at the overall experience, it did not disappoint - scoring an easy 8/10.
Benchmarking against other players in the market, the ‘other’ notable Tomahawk place in SS2 would still ranks higher for its technique, taste, value for money and meat quality.More
