A recommendation from a friend, this was set as the destination dining experience of the trip (2wks in KL), coordinated to align with my partners birthday.
What had started as an intended couples meal, became a family affair when we added both daughter and mother...(partners mother) to the evening. Whilst this might seem a potential negative, it only allowed use to share the experience further and enrich our evening.
Short version, food was great, wine pairings worked very well (highlights included Marlborough White, and the desert wine), cocktails (of the two tried) amazing, service from all team members impeccable!
Longer version, ahead of arrival we had been in contact with the restaurant to confirm suitably for young (9yo) daughter with food allergies. They had been helpful in offering a reduced (4/5 course) menu that catered for required allergens.
Confirmation messages ahead of the day confirmed allergies had been accounted for, and made sure all other details were gathered as required.
On the day of the visit, after some initial trouble parking (we should have picked a carpark sooner, given KL traffic), we were greeted warmly and shown our seats.
The heavy chairs gave luxurious feeling to the seating and were assisted by attentive staff, it helped when they could make a significant noise if you didn’t have the chair balanced correctly when moving it.
The choice between the experience and the elevated menus was a tough one, initially the whiskey pairs didn’t favour the elevated version for our table, two of four drinking, and no one particular whiskey fans. But in conversation, decisions made harder when wine pairings were compared (available for both menus).
We opted for the experience version, predominately due to our leaning towards the seafood biased tilt for the evening. But seriously was an extremely close call!
Adding a couple of cocktails to begin the evening, and we were set.
The cocktails deserve their own mention though… again, in discussion with the staff, they were able to offer advice and guidance and what to expect from the cocktail options, meaning whilst we only had a couple (one each for the two drinking), they both hit the spot!
The food arrived with the suggested wine pairings, effectively one wine covering 2 dishes for the first 8 courses, then the desert wine with the final course.
As I’ve seen other cover, it felt like each course built on the last, continuing to demonstrate exceptional flavour combinations and artistic presentation.
At the time the cod dish, for us, felt like a bit of a dip the initial 5 courses before had set us off on. It had felt like a wild ride with taste overloads coming one after the other. However, on reflection, I can see how the cod helped clear the palette and ensure the remaining courses were equally enjoyed.
It was a good dish, in its own right, but following the previous few dishes, it changed the pace of the meal (flavour wise). There were noises of feeling full ahead of the cod, but this dish was cleared, as was everything afterwards.
It feels strange to have written so many words on the least favourite dish, but it was still a great plate, and it did a great job playing its part in an awesome meal.
I won’t cover each dish, but will highlight;
Spiced Sea Crab Curry and Chettinad Pepper Sauce as two of the highlights from the remaining dishes.
It’s not a cheap evening, far from it, but it is an event of an evening, and would have to argue this is an example of getting what you’re paying for… in a positive sense of the phrase.
Thank you to all at Nadodi for our evening, it was great to be able to share it with more than just my partner. (Although would have been equally awesome as a couple I’m sure).More
