Welcome new contemporary Danish influenced restaurant in the Okd Malaya row of eateries. An intriguing and tempting menu of shared plates some Asian influenced. Fish and meat dishes were especially inspired. Must return to try out more offerings. Good value good service.

It was a girls nite out and this place was highly recommended by a chef friend (who owned a decent restaurant & bar in Bangsar). Valet parking was a necessity in that narrow street of restaurants occupying the row of Old Malaya shop lots. We...were met at the entrance by a server, who showed us to our seat @ 1 corner. Tables & seating were quite limited despite the spacious ground floor, must be the SOP adherence. I saw many customers were ushered to the 1st floor via its spiral staircase next to the washroom, and then heard high heels walking on the floor board above us. The serving staff (a chinese guy) presented us the menu & asked for our drink orders, and then went away & returned with our drinks. He did a very good job in explaining & recommending the dishes which was perfect in both taste & portion. The co-owner Rony came to check on us & brought out a cake slice complete with a lit candle upon hearing it was my friend's birthday. Great PR!! We are not great fans of cakes & sweets but the cake & another dessert item were the deal breaker for conversion. I find words hard to describe my experience, one has to personally put the food into the mouth & then let the body react to the satisfaction. This establishment is big time into sustainability, they source their ingredients locally in supporting the local producers. There's a small herb garden in the front, ask for a guided tour. The restaurant was in a heritage style building which takes you right back to the past.Interesting selection of food. A fusion of East and West. Fantastic service by the staffs. The environment in the restaurant is cozy and warm. Highly recommended to try for those...seeking a little adventure in food.More

3rd time at this restaurant so we clearly like it and enjoyed yet another pleasant dinner in a nice location in KL with the KL Tower providing the back drop. Some things on the menu were near perfection (Risotto, Scallops, 'nuggets', Lamb ragu - more...lamb please), others were good but not great (prawn dumplings) while on this visit one dish did let the side down. We tried the sirloin steak (110myr?) and expected great things but alas....it was a disappointment. Too much gristle and average flavoured, chewy meat....in hindsight we should have sent it back). Shame really, because this is nice restaurant with good, friendly service and despite the let down of the one dish we will still return because we liked everything else so much.More

The organic and local produce used in the dishes is unlike anything I have tasted in KL. The restaurant is relatively new and I consider this a hidden gem. To me, there are very few that match this level of taste in KL. Those who...do, easily charge double, and even then, some are not on par with what Nik is producing at Canvass. And Rony, thank you for sharing your passion. Your cocktails are easily within the top 5 in SEA for me. But which spot, I will keep a secret. Till next time. Starter, main, dessert, and cocktails for 2 were around RM250 for us. Depending on the dishes you pick this could go up to around RM300 total or much lower if you do not take 3 courses as we did. To anyone reading this, If you want to have a nice dinner as a couple at the above price point and prefer a warm/casual rather than uptight interiors. This is one of 3 places in KL that I would recommend. For special occasions, you could opt for the chef's table. A custom-made 6-8 course menu at RM175-RM225. At this level of quality, you should expect to pay more than double that if you were to travel to Europe, Japan or the US. From an expat perspective, I simply find it incredible that the team is able to deliver at this price point, even taking Malaysia's lower overhead costs into account. If you are still with me reading here, I strongly recommend visiting sooner than later, before this place becomes overbooked.More

Canvass which was open 2 months ago is certainly creating waves. This restaurant focuses on sustainable hedonism which is using healthy and bio-diversity ingredients. Love the ambience which makes it a cozy place to hangout. Had a wonderful Nordic inspired dining journey where the food...was great making every mouthful a delight for the palate and of high quality. Please leave room for desserts whuch are to die for😋.Service was friendly and pleasant. Had the opportunity to meet the Danish Chef Nikolaj and his partner MI Rony. Both of them took the time despite the crowds was building up to share their philosophy of the restaurant and their passion on using sustainable ingredients towards a better planet. Will be back to experience the chef’s table.Lets make our planet more friendly in a sustainable way through this wonderful dishes.More

Held my birthday dinner there. The heritage building is almost 100 years old I was told. But so cozy and surprisingly cool. Such a chilled and unique upstairs bar and dining room. Almost like a secret lounge. A new concept in town they told us....A sustainable and recycling restaurant here in KL. Nordic inspired and very focused on being ethical about what is good for the planet is good for all of us. We had really excellent food and drinks . Even with our noisy and happy company I still remember the amazing beef cheek, so tender and the sauce... Oh that sauce. But then the desserts.... I forgot the Danish details that had to do with the dessert . But I will not forget those desserts . White chocolate and strawberry... A Danish classic chef said. A childhood favourite . And the dark chocolate mousse they baked serve with caramel and beetroot licorice sauce . We had an extra of that . Then the very amazing whiskey sour that blew one of my friends away. She had never tried one before . And she had 3 before she left. Tipsy but happy. We all were . I will come again. They keep developing they said.More
